HOWARD PAYNE HALL GIRLS EN.
TEUTUN TOWN GIRLS
Friday afternoon the girls of the
College leceived an invitation to visit
with the spooks at the dormitory. By
eight o'clock all the ghosts and sha-
dows had assembled and the doors
were closed.
The ghosts were met by shadows
and led down the troubled path to the
high judge where they received their
due sentence to the underworld to be
a part of all its mysteries and blood
curdling horrors. Mack witches scud-
dled hero and there making the place
inoie weird. Soft dim lights shone
from different parts of the room and
in the center of the room was a huge
monster with gleaming mouth and
eyes. Ghosts flitted to and fro seek-
ing friends and enemies they had
known in the upper world. Death
stalked among the throng with her icy
hand and sought to grapple with all
who came near her.
At the sounding of the dirge the
assembly was divided and taken in
charge by ghosts and witches who
told them to follow the leader else he
be lost in the dark mysterious pas-
sages. There was an cntcrance at each end
of the underworld that led up and up
and up. Up these passages led the
company on a journey to they knew
not whither.
After many years of wandering up
this unknown path the ghosts arrived
in a lighter region. In the distance
they could heur the cries of their fel-
low ghosts who had chosen the wrong
way. From here they were led to a
tiny den all tingling with mystery
and full of weird shadows. Here an
interperter of the future dwelt. Some
were sentenced to a room of horrors
where the ground was very tricky and
unstable and where the dead confront-
ed them on every side. From here the
Grand Witch led the entire throng to
pay their respects to the unrisen
spirits. These they found on the up-
per gallery waiting to be called forth.
When friends had been reunited the
party began its long toilsome but
happy journey back to the under
world.
Arriving there the ghosts gathered
around a monstrous jack-o-luntcru
and in the semi-darkness were enter-
tained with ghost stories.
Xaturally live ghosts can't live long
without refreshments so a wholesome
feast was et before them consisting
of too many good things to bo remun-
erated. One thing not to be left out
howcver.was the wonderful Hallowe'en
cake in which was hidden tiny slips of
paper each one drawing a prize.
At one end of the underworld many
apples the ghost's standby were sus-
pended in mid air and no ghost was
counted worthy who could not manage
to obtain one without the use of her
hands.
Of course they bobbed for apples
some even deigned to sink if need be
in order to obtain the coventcd prize.
The ghosts shadows and witches all
tried to out do each other in joining in
the games and bringing joy into their
otherwise silent lives.
Strictly at the sounding of the fare-
well note the witches mounted their
broom sticks and the ghosts vanished.
They were soon on their way to the
world of lijrht. They had had one
wonderful night.
