Mrs. Albert Bonarden, Sr.,
died suddenly of heart failure at
her home about 7 miles east of
town in the Pagel settlement,
Monday* night Jan 1st at 6:30
o’clock. She had been spending
the day wdh Mr. and Mrs. Kirch-
ner about three miles distant and
soon after her return complained
of being short of breath. Her
husband and son were assisting
her to retire wben she expired in
their arms. Deceased, was a most
excellent lady, a native of Her-
ford Germany and was 54 years of
age. She leaves a husband, foUi*
sons and four daughters to mourn
her loss, inqludiny Mrs. H. J.
Heye, Mrs. Alex Bonarden and
Miss Bonarden of this city, Mrs.
Emil Miller, of Scharlot ten burg
and Mr. Henry Bonarden of the
Pagel settlement.

CHIEF MITCHEL ENTERTAINS.
Mr. Julius J. Mitchel. tlje geni-
al chief of the Halletsville Fire
Department, entertained “the
boys’’ at" headquarters with a
luncheon, on Monday afternoon.
The Silver Cornet band was on
hand to furnish the music
as they always : are when
the Fire boys need their assistance,
and everybody enjoyed themselves
to the utmost The “blowout”
was given as a parting greeting in
view of thd fact that Mr, Mitchel
will shortly remove from the city
to his stock ranch, near Hobson,
in Karnes Co. Mr. Mitchel has
made an able and popular chief
and a good citizen and not only the
fire boys bat all the people .of
Halletsville rtgret his intended re-
moval. . An election will be held
next Thursday when bis successor
and a full complement of officers
> will be chospn for the new year.
Mr. H. J. Braunig, who has been
Treasurer of the Department since
its organization seems to be the
popular choice of the department
for Chief Mitpbel’s mantle, if he
will accept 'the honor, and he
would certainly make an excel -
