t& Election History
The last ballot has been counted and the buttons posters and
editorial columns are little more than history In the minds of the
Sroters. Election 80 Decisions '80 orThe 80 Vote what ever you may
want to call It is over. It will be two more years before not so young
but very restless politicians have a chance to fight for the highest of-
fice of the land. Looking back on the election there are both good and
bad things to be said about the national event.
The election was good because it made the public think about the
affairs of our nation. Because the race between Mr. Carter and Mr.
Reagan was so close the voters not only had to select a candidate but
also defend the choice among their peers.
The'election was also bad because of the strife it has caused bet-
ween friends. The election was so close many people began to take
the election personally. I know I am guilty of this If no one else is. This
kind of strife is not good for a nation.
There have been many people who have.accusedme of being the
editor of the HSU REAGAN Brand. The newspaper did not endorse any
of the candidates. However in my column I endorsed Mr. Reagan and
actively supported him. I have found that there are many readers who
feel this was inapproprate. I would like to apologize to any one who
was offended by my support of the candidate.
Now that the election is over I believe It is time to get behind the
winning candidate and give full support for him. There are many pro-
blems facing our nation and we need to support the president. Whether
or not your candidate won it is important to support the man in office.
Thereneeds to be a unity in our nation and the only way this can be ac-
complished Is if we get behind our president. We need to remember
that the United States 1s still "One nation under God indivisible with
liberty and justice for all."

Photo results in letters
By PHIL HAMILTON
Brand Editor
A photograph which was recent-
ly published in the 1980 Bronco of
the Trl Phi social club has resulted
In letters of apology from several
groups.
The picture was In keeping with
the Bronco's theme of depicting
various decades; Trl Phi's picture
depicted the 1940's.
Blanche Clark a social work ma-
jor wrote a letter to the HSU Brand
expressing her "disbelief" and
"anger" over the club's picture.
Clark said "As a black student on
this campus I object to and resent
this photograph."
The HSU Brand also received a
letter from the social club
apologizing for the photograph.
Club president Carolyn Estill
said "We wish to have it known
that there was no maliciousness
Intended to any one person or any.
specific group." The president
said the club also regrets any-
embarrassment caused by the-
incident.
Robbln Rlbble 1979-80 Bronco
editor also apologized in a letter
sent to the HSU Brand saying the
picture would have never' been
made if the staff had realized the
resentment it would cause. Esther
Baca 1980-81 Bonco editor said
special precautions will be taken
this year to insure a similar Incl-
dent does not again occur.
Other letters were also received
from concerned students. Larry
Maddox urged the student body to
"just get back to learning how to
make this old world a better place
in which to live."
Clark said" apologies had been
made and accepted and she now
believes the photo was done in ig-
norance rather than a conscious
intent to hurt.
Library rules modified
In an effort to upgrade the cir-
culation procedures in Richardson
Library several rules and regula-
tions have been modified to "in-
sure the principle of equal access
of materials to the HSU com-
munity" said Jonathan Lauer
public services librarian.
Lauer cited that the changes
were made as an incentive for per-
sons to return overdue materials
that may be needed by another stu-
dent or professor thus creating
greater accessibility of library
materials In demand to a larger
university population.
Whereas persons were previous-
ly charged a maximum of $2 for
overdue materials the cost is now
$10 per item. The processing fee
for readying a new book for the
shelf that was reported or pre-
sumed lost was increased by $2.25
to $4.25 a price that Lauer said
still falls below the actual replace-
ment processing cost.
Any responsible person age 16
or over who resides in the Abilene
area may borrow library materials
with the proper identification such
as a student ID card or driver's
license. The borrower Is respon-
sible for all materials checked out
In his name their prompt return or
payment of fines whether or not he
receives a notice.
Items in the general collection
government documents or educa-
tion library may be checked out for
18 to 24 days depending on when
an item Is borrowed. The fine Is 5
material.
The reserve collection has four
variations: strict reserve overnight
reserve three-day reserve and one-
week reserve. The strict reserve in-
volves library use ony. The other
three reserves are limited to the
designated time lengths. Over-
night reserve items are due within
the first hour the library opens the
following day. Fines for any of the
reserve items are 50 cents per day
or any part of a day.
Unbound periodicals are for
library use only whereas bound
volumes may be checked out over-
night two hours before closing
time. Limit is three per patron. A
50-cont fine will be charged per
day for overdue items.
Materials may be renewed on or
before the due date for additional
loan periods throughout the aca-
demic term at the circulation desk.
All borrowers will be charged for
lost items at a cost arrived at by
totaling the replacement cost pro-
cessing fee and accumulation of
fines.
