Four outstanding basketball
prospects have signed scholar-
ship agreements with H-SU
Coach Glen Whitis has announ-
ced Several other prospective
recruits have been contacted
and are expected to sign before
the semester ends Whitis added.
Three of the early signees are
high school seniors while one
is a junior college star. Whitis
said he hopes to add at least one
more junior "college transfer to
next year's varsity in addition
to a full roster of freshmen.
TWo all-district players from
Trinity High School of suburban
Fort Worth have chosen H-SU.
Reagan Finch 6-7 forward who
averaged 23 points per game this
past season was signed at his
home in Bedford by Coach Rus-
sell Berry. Robert Mahoney 6-1
guard who averaged 20.2 points
ACC returns to Cowboy cage
schedule for 1971-72 season
A 26-game varsity basketball
schedule for the 1971-72 season
has been announced by Head
Coach Glen Whitis after ap-
proval of the Faculty Athletic
Committee.
Half the games will be played
oh the Cowboys' home court in
Taylor County Coliseum.
The most extensive' road trip
will be a three-game journey
during the Christmas holidays
into the deep South. The Cow-
boys will play Louisiana State
University of New Orleans
South Alabama University at
Mobile and Samford University
in Birmingham.
Returning to the schedule next
season after being off two years
will be the Abilene Christian
College Wildcats. The cross-
town rivalry will resume Dec.
17 when the Cowboys and Wild-
cats meet in the first night of
the annual Cowboy Classic.
Other teams in the Classic will
be McMurry College and North-
ern Illinois University.
H-SU will return games at
ACC and Northern Illinois later
in the season.
Other old foes returning to the
schedule are Oklahoma City Uni-
versity Pan American Univer-
sity and Trinity University. All
three are slated on a home-and-home
basis.
The season-opener is Dec. 1
against the University of Iowa
Pan American next
Poke baseball foe
One of the nation's top colleg-
iate baseball teams comes to
H-SU Friday and Saturday to
take on Coach Charlie Horton's
Cowboys.
Pan- American University
which downed the Cowboys
twice last year at Edinburg is
slated to play two doubleheaders
with the Cowboys Friday and
Saturday with action beginning
at i p.m. each day.
The Cowboys were to play
Abilene Christian College Mon-
day on the H-SU diamond. The
two teams split a doubleheader
earlier this season on the Wild-
cat diamond.
During the spring holidays
the Pokes lost a doubleheader
to West Texas State at Canyon.
They outhit. the Buffs in the
first game; but bowed 6-4 then
dropped the second game 16-3.
Lee Fisher and. Jeff Jones
divided pitching chores' in the
first game. Fisher the loser
went three innings. Jim Becker
was the losing pitcher in the
second game which was halted
after four innings.

Protest' next
in film series
The next film in the "Civil-
ization" film series will be
shown in Behrens Chapel-Auditorium
Monday April 26.
The film showing of "Protest
and Communication" was de-
layed by spring vacation at
H-SU. All of the films are shown
on Mondays at 10 a.m. in Beh-
rens Chapel.

lene Intercollegiate Tournament
this Thursday through Saturday.
Eight teams are entered in the
meet which is to be hosted this
year by Abilene Christian Col-
lege. H-SU was host last year.
' The Cowboy golfers finished
last in a 10-team tournament
April 9-10 at Angelo State Uni-
versity shooting a cumulative
score of .910. Paul Stuerzenbur-
ger had 77 72 77-226; Tommy
Springer 73 74 77-224; Gary
Grissom 74 72 74-220; Jack
Haynes Jr. 78 80 82-240.
All-Greater Fort Worth high
school team. His fied goal" aver-
age was over 50 per cent.
A Midland High School star
signed this past week. He is
John Mason 6-7 center-forward
who led the Midland" Bulldogs
to the District 2-AAAA champ-
ionship. He averaged 12.8 points
and 9 rebounds per game and
hit on 58 per cent of his field
goal attempts. Mason is an honor
student.
Transfering to H-SU next fall
from Cisco Junior College will
be Lyneal James former star at
Colorado City High School.
The 6-5 210-pounder averaged
21.3 points a game this past sea-
son at Cisco hitting 216 of 325
field goal attempts for 66 per
cent. In high school he was All-
district All-Area All-Regional
and All-State in Class 3-AAA.
