Pre-School Retreat
Stf for Sept. 6-8
The annual pre-school retreat
sponcored by the Baptist Student
Union will 'be held Sept. 6-8
Leonard Payne BSU vice-president
announced.
Dr. Cecil Sherman who works
with college students for the
Evangelism Department of the
Baptist General Convention of
Texas wall speak during the re-
treat. Other speakers will also be
on the program.
All students are invited to the
retreat Payne said. This will be
the first time in several years that
incoming freshmen will be able
to attend the retreat.
Students will be able to leave
their belongings on the campus
before going to the retreat even
though the dormitories will not
be open officially.
Conferences inspirational mes-
sages music recreation reports
from summer missionaries and
making of final plans for BSU
activities during the year will
highlight the meeting.
Among the activities to be
planned are the Sunday School
classes at the Abilene State
School and the Friday night mis-
sions program. The calendar of
activities for the year will be dis-
cussed. Chaplain Lacy Standifer of the
State School will conduct the
orientation period for workers
there. Students will assist with
Young People's classes each Sun-
day morning. BSU choir practice
will also be held.
Further plans for the retreat
will be mailed to students during
the summer.
Shelnutt to Head
1962-63 PEMMOS
The FEMMOQS girls physical
education club at H-SU met May
2 and elected Dolores Shelnutt
president for the 1962-63 year.
A program was presented by
the advanced tumbling class
after which members of the club
took part in playing on the
trampoline parallel bars and
tumbling.
Tentative plans for a week-end
outing May 1849 were planned.
The over-night affair will take
place at Ft. Phantom Lake. Miss
Billie Shirley instructor in physi-
cal education is the club sponsor.
Completion Seen Before Fall
For Student Union Building

The Student Union Building is
nearing completion for the fall
semester informed Fred Busby
supervisor for general contractor
C. B. Oates Construction Co. The
$1 million building begun in Sep-
tember 1961 is the second phase
of the Hardin-Slmmons Univer-
sity building program. The first
phase of the program was com-
pleted in the spring of 1961 when
the Chapel-Auditorium was
opened.
The two story student center of
-conventional styling has Lueders

George Loutherback Lubbock
has been elected president of the
junior class of Hardin-Simmons
University for 1962-63.
Members of the class also elect-
ed Bruce Ayers Gruver vice-
president; D. Ann Smith Am-
herst secretary; and Wesley Gar-
net Spearman social chairman.
The other class officers for
1962-63 will fee Dixie Davis San
Antonio treasurer and Cherry
Dollins Waco social chairman.
Radio-TV Commission
Employs Brand Editor
Pat Dishman Rankin senior
has accepted a position in the
publication and publicity depart-
ment of the Southern Baptist
Radio and Television Commission
in Ft. Worth.
Miss Dishman Brand editor for
1961-62 is a candidate for the
BS degree in the May 28 com-
mencement. She is a religious
education major with a minor in
journalism. The graduating senior
is to report at the Commission
on June 18.
Todd Reported
Improving After
Auto Accident
Doug Todd member of the
H-SU football squad is improv-
ing in Hendrick Memorial Hospi-
tal after suffering injuries last
Friday in an automobile accident
on the west road of Ft. Phantom.
Two persons were killed when
the two cars collided.
Janice Naylor a Cooper high
school junior student who was a
passenger in Todd's car also was
reported improving Tuesday by
hospital authorities. She suffered
a slight brain concussion and a
fractured jaw. Todd suffered a
fractured collar bone and a leg
injury in the mishap.
Walter W. Kater 51 of Waco
was killed in the collision which
happened two and half miles
north of Abilene on Farm to
Market Road No. 1193. Henry
EbenHayes of Dallas was the sec-
ond victim of the accident.

The men's dormitory annex to
Ferguson Hall should be com-
pleted fey the fall stated J. B.

The dormitory will room 120
men. Like the new student union
building the annex is construct-
ed with steel reinforced concrete
and precast concrete spanning
the floors and roof. The pent-
house will hold the equipment
room two storage rooms laundry
and vending machine room.
Ceramic tile solar tile and
Leuders lime stone will trim the
dormitory.
A $360000 loan has been re-
ceived for the construction of the
men's dormitory.
