If Hardin-Simmons University
rolls past Texas Western Satur-
day night in Kidd Field at El
Paso it will pe the fourth con-
secutive time the H-SU squad
has defeated the Miners.
Injuries have left holes in the
Cowboy (varsity ranks leaving
only 29 plays after six winless
games. The latest casualties to
be sidelined are Gilbert Pelton
who was injured in practice Mon-
day and end Gary Gilliland.
Coach Howard McChesney said
he will convert fullbacks and
tackles into ends halfbacks and
guards in an attempt to plug up
the H-SU gaps.
Fullback Sammy Oates and
Tommy Echols have been starters
at the end positions for two
weeks while Bill Voss and Claude
Dollins were out with injuries.
Voss nationally-ranked pass re-
ceiver is out for the season and
Dollins is still on the injury list.
The Cowboys have had five
ends -three guards two quarter-
backs a center and a half-back
out of play at some time this sea-
son although many have filed
back into the ranks. These in-
clude quarterback Hayseed
Stephens center Jack Taylor and
tackles Jerry Bristo and Russell
Still.
McChesney stated that he ex-
pects Texas Western to concen-
trate primarily on a ground at-
tack against the Pokes.
The Miners will enter the game
Saturday night with three
straight wins backing them up.
Out of 26 tries. TWC has only
won seven of its games against
H-SU.
Dirty Dozen Starts-
Season With Victory

squad started off women's intra-
mural action by handing the Din-
ner Dozen a 28-2 defeat.

A happy Homecoming day was
touched with a bit of gloom Sat-
urday afternoon as the Hardin-
Simmons Cowboys were out buf-
faloed 21-0 by West Texas State
College at Public Schools
Stadium.
With an eight-game losing
streak tagged on to their record
the Pokes took their second
second straight Border Confer-
ence setback.
An opening 100-yard kickoff
return by WTSC's Ned Jolly
rocked the coliseum. An off-
side penalty against the Cowboys
made Fletcher Fields' first kick-
off be called back. Fields' sec-
ond boot sailed to the end zone
where it was taken by Jolly a
160-pound senior from Phillips
who went all the way with only
17 seconds gone in the game.
Charlie Williams put the first of
three successful extra points
through the cross bars.
A 19-yard scoring pass from
sophomore quarterback Jim Daw-
son to Jolly gave the Buffs their
final TD after a 67-yard West
Texas drive.
Hardin-Simmons managed only
one serious threat grinding
from its own 40 to the Buff 3 the
first quarter. But a fourth-down
pass play failed and the Cowboys
never came closer than the West
Texas 31 the remainder of the
game.

quarterback who entered the
game as the nation's leading
passer with 73 completions only

yards. However midway of the
third quarter he had to leave the
game because of an injured
shoulder.
Wharton returned the Buff
kickoff to the Poke 40 after Jolly's
scoring runback. A Cowboy
ground attack was sparked as
Wills and Wharton alternated to
the Buff 3.
The West Texas team tighten-
ed up and H-SU failed to score.
WTSC took possession but was
forced to punt.
A few plays later Fletcher
Fields attempted a field goal
from the 38 but the kick was
blocked.
The second quarter the Pokes
and Buffs rambled back and
forth with no scoring.
Early in the second half WTSC
went all the way for its middle
touchdown. The conversion was
good.
The scoring play was spurred
by a 31-yard pass from halfback
Jerry Don Logan to Joe Granato.
which took the Buffaloes to the
H-SU 12. Densman scored from
the two-yard line after a series
of plays.
A spectacular play set up the
final Buff TD after the team had
