Name Sought
For Freshman
Football Team
The Student Council is spon-
soring a contest during Home-
coming Weekend to pick a new
name for the freshman football
team.
The freshman squad was unof-
ficially nicknamed the "Buttons"
approximately 15 years ago by a
student sports writer. The name
refers to the little knobs which
appear on a calf's head before he
sprouts horns. As the name was
never officially approved and has
no connection with the "Cow-
boy" theme the Student Council
is sponsoring a student-alumni
"Name the 'Buttons' " contest.
A booth will be set up in the
SUB Friday noon for the students
and exes will be given contest
blanks when they register. The
judging committee will be made
up of the freshman football cap-
tains freshman football coach
freshman class president Student
Council and Dr. Hiram Arrant.
The prize is to be a reserve
ticket to the New Mexico State
game on Nov. 19. The winning
name will be published in the
Range Rider and the Brand.
