There will be a public ser-
vice program broadcast on
KRBC each evening from 5:40
to 6:00 p. m. in which activi-
ties of the three colleges
and Abilene High School will
be announced.
There are no sponsors for
the program. It is merely a
way of reaching the students.
Any organization which has
any meetings or announce-
ments may have them broad-
cast if they will get in contact
with Martha Gay Ueckert
Carlene Holder or Darla Shel-
ton. 'Frosh' Enrollment
Sets All-Time High;
Total Reaches 1558
Enrollment for the fall semes-
ter totals 1558 students an in-
crease of 11.4 per cent over last
fall's enrollment figure of 1398.
Freshman enrollment reached
an all-time high of 611 students
said Mrs. Madge Grba university
registrar. The previous high was
602 freshmen in 1948 a year
when many veterans enrolled.
Final enrollment figures for
other groups registered show 319
sophomores 315 juniors 200 sen-
iors 83 graduates and 30 unclassi-
fied and special students.
Men's dormitory accommoda-
tions of 410 beds are completely
full and the 432 beds in the wom-
en's dormitories are about 90 per

cent full.
The present facilities were plan-
ned to" be sufficient dormitory
space until 1962. Student in-
quiries already on file indicate
that men's dormitories will be
over-flowing next fall and there
will be a crowded situation in the
women's dormitories.
Hardin-Simmons University can
look to the future years with
bright expectations if this year's
record is any indication.

Record Number of Cadets Are
Distinguished Military Students
A record of nine cadets receiv-
ed the Distinguished Military
Student award Tuesday at 1 p. m.
during the ROTC drill period. In
he past only three cadets each
year have been recipients of the
award.
Lt. Col. Howard H. Burd pre-
sented the award to Cadet Col.
William A. Ballenger; Cadet Lt.
Cols. Henry G. Whitley Carroll
Z. Dickson and William R. Hor

Company Sponsors
South Hall dormitory council is
a member of Cowgirls and was a
nominee for Rodeo Sweetheart
last spring. She also was sweet-
heart of the Circle K organiza-
tion last year.
Miss Williams a sophomore
from Clovis N. M. is a member
of Life Service Band Cowgirls
the University Business Associa-
tion and serves on her dormitory
council. She was a Rodeo Sweet-
heart nominee last year.
Miss Bailey a junior from
Seagraves is a member of Cow-
girls. She was a member of the
twirling corps of the Cowgirl
Band last year. She held the
rank of Honorary Capt. as she
was company sponsor last year.
Miss Walker is a transfer from
the University of Oklahoma. Last
summer was her first at H-SU
but she has gone far from being
un-noticed on the campus as be-
ing chosen sponsor shows. She
was a cheerleader at Abilene
High.
Miss Edens a sophomore from
Talpa is a member of Cowgirls.
Last year she was one of the

Wednesday Oct. 15 has
been set as make-up day for
those students who failed to
have their BRONCO pictures
on the regular picture taking
date. The student will have
to go to Robert's Studio at 1138
North Second at any time be-
tween 9 a. m. to 5 p. m. Fac-
ulty members may make an
appointment to have their
pictures taken at any time.

Cadet Col; Ballenger was voted
outstanding cadet during his
freshman year. He has been
outstanding in debate work and
is president of the student coun-
cil this year.
Cadet Lt. Col. Whitley is a
three-year letterman on the H-SU
freshmen cheerleaders. This year
she was elected as varsity cheer-
leader. The company sponsors will re-
ceive honorary commissions as
Cadet Captains at the annual
military banquet to be held Nov.
22. They will also take part in
the annual Federal Inspection
next spring.
In preparing for the banquet
they will become members of the
ROTC social committee. Cadet
Lawrence Siewert and Miss Sue
Rhoads Honorary Brigade Com-
mander are co-chairmen of the
committee. Miss Rhoads was

Cowboy Band Will
Play at State Fair
They're on the move again! The
H-SU Cowboy Band will leave
tomorrow morning for Dallas and
the State Fair of Texas.
As a part of the higher educa-
tion theme of this year's fair the
Band will present a concert
in the Hall of State at 6:30 to-
morrow afternoon.
Various college and university
bands from all over the state have
been asked to perform at separ-
ate times in the Hall of State
during the fair.
Marion McClure director
of the Cowboys said that the
band will return late Saturday
night.
Also performing at the State
Fair yesterday was the H-SU
Brass Choir directed by Robert
Stevenson.
Houston Site of
BSU Convention
All roads will lead to Houston
when the 1958 Texas Baptist Stu-
dent Convention meets in that
city Oct. 17-19.
"Disciplined for Today's De-
mands" will serve as the theme
for this year's meeting. Regis
tration begins at y jmaay morn-
ing but the first worship service
doesn't assemble until Y mat
evening. Marvin Flowers BSU
nrpsident. will be the student as
sistant on the platform Friday
night. Another iarcun-fcimmons
student Ann Smith will serve as
Student Convener for the 11:20
a. m. Saturday session. She will
also be a part of the Summer
Missions Presentation that after-
noon. Singing in the BSU choir
which will be directed by Dick

der Dale Coody and Jack Wil-
liams. Busses will leave Abilene at 8
a. m. Friday Oct. 17 arriving in
Houston approximately 5 p. m.
