By L. T. B. WILSON Jr.
The Brand tenuis tournament
has gone into the second week
ratchcr slowly. Very few match-
es have been played and there
have been several postponements
what do we care we have all
summer.
In a second round match Cran-
fill defeated Junell. Junell set a
new world's record by failing to '
score a point in the second set.
Huucy defeated Pickard in a first
round match that litis been post-
poned several time. At this very
minute Seed is pluying Aiken
and is touted to win and go into
the finals. His opponent will be
Prof. Ballard and the said prof
will win. unless he falls and
breaks a leg before the time of the
final mutch.
The doubles tournament will
start as soon as the singles match-
es are over. There are no favor-
ites as vet but Prof. Hutto and
Harry Hayes will team to form a
nice dun. Whoever teams with
Prof. Ballard may be carried to
the championship.
The following does not pcitaiuj
to tennis but Prof. Ribble
broke the sitting high-jump record .
when he seated himself on a'
grasshurr in the cafeteria.
Little Mc has long wanted to
be an athlete and has finally turn-
ed to ping-pong. As a ping-pong
player he is a good band director.
This seems to be a darkie year
in the way of athletics songs or I
what have you. At the recent

He broke the world's record on
the 100 yard dash by running it
in 9.4. Later in tlit day he broke
the world high school record on'
the broad jump. On the same day
he won the 220 yard dash for the
; meet and run on the 880 yard re
lay team. In the Olympic meet
lust summer it will be remember-
ed that Tolan and Metcalfe also
blackies won everything to be
won in the dashes.
a croquet court is heme con
structed between Ferguson hall j
and the president's home for the
use of the band school boys. It1
is expected to take the place of
water fights to give the boys a1
chance to work ott their excess
energy.

Nations may default their war
debts and the mortgage on the
old plucc may b5 way past due
but Daniel Cupid's business for
the Hrst twenty days of his ban
tier month is more than 300 per
cent better than for the same pe-
riod last year.
Twenty-three marriage licenses
have been issued by the Taylor
county clerk this year since the
first of June as compared with
only seven last year and one of
the seven was returned unused.
Only thirteen licenses were is-
sued during the entire month of
June 1932 and almost double
that amount have registered their
intentions already this month.
By applying a little mathemat-
ics to love forty three happy
couples should approach the
county clerk this June which
would uvcrage a marriage and a
half a day. That's carrying fig-
uics a bit too far though because
marriages cannot be computed
cessfully in halves.
