been anticipated for several weeks
came as a result of special efforts by
Dr. L. E. Finney secretary of the

MOTHER
In spite of rumors to the contrary
Mary Prances and Simmons U are
still standing. Fond parents sure
kept the telephone busy Tuesday try-
ing to learn whether they nrotpaying
out tuition for earthly beings or for
a flight to the North Polo or some
other remote spot on this old ball.
By V. Marie Stephens
A year has passed and again we turn our thoughts and attention to
those whom wo proudly call "Mother." She is lauded with song and speech
throughout the day. Her hands are filled with the gifts we bestow upon her
as a small symbol of our love and for that one day she is hailed as queen.
There are eomc who happily wear die red rose the token of the love
of a living mother and there are those who carry the snow-white flower in
remembrance of her who can never die "but whose memory lives for an
eternity.
Apparently it has never occurred to the human race that there arc 364
days in every year. We give our programs preacli our sermons and sing
our anthems in services dedicated to .her with the one thought in mind:
'Today is Mother's Day and since it belongs to her she shall be honored'
The Day ends and we fall baek into our usual routine of activities. Untnil
another similar day rolls around one year later she whom wo profess to
love so dearly spends many a lonesome hour perhaps sheds unnecessary
tears and often carries an aching heart because of n thoughtless act or word
of the one so dear to her.
Every day should be Mother's Day in the hearts and lives of those who
love her.
At least tho ones of uv who got
cold feet in the race are foot-loose
and are not worrying about our great
unpopularity.
General Plans for convocations as-
semblies and chapel for next year
1030-31 were released Wednesday af-
ternoon by Dr. R. E. Dickenson chap-
lain who announced that students will
be required to attend chapel only
once a week beginning next fall.
Tho student body will be divided
into two groups and will be assigned
to chapel meetings cither on Tues
day or Wednesday instead of the
regular chapel days heretofore Mon-
day and Wednesday. This arrange-
ment will give students an extra hour
Dr. Dickenson said but emphasized
the fact that tho students will bo
required to attend chapel the day
they arc assigned to go. Semi-Week-
iy.

RIGHT WAY LAUNDRY
Thcso girls what have dates with
"It" boys sure better watch out for
there are always girls in windows to
see them off and to watch with a
jealous eye.
Someone heard that V Marie was
going to New Orleans He thought a
moment before he spoke "I don't see
why it isn't the season for Marda
Gras." No but the B. S. U. might
even pay her expenses to represent
them at that event.
IT'S OVER
By Gcraldine Bazc.
Tho election which was the main topic of Simmons for weeks is now
relegated to the background with the rest of the past elections. Most stu-
dents will never give it another thought.
However there arc some students who will give all their attention to
its results throughout the coming year the successful candidates. Their
work is not over witli the finish of the election but has really just begun. It
is up to them to prove to their loyal supporters that their choice was wise. It
is not enough that they uphold the standards of their predecessors but they
must improve upon them. Regardless of cither interests they must
think first of the office which they promised to fill to the best of their
ability. They are no longer free to do as they please they arc servants
of Simmons and its student body.
The task of the successful candidates is not any easy one. The de-
feated man can console himself with that fact. The burden of the students'
criticisms will fall on every man who holds office next year. Most of the
candidates however have looked forward to these difficulties and are pre-
pared to meet them. They take die optimistic and correct view of the situ-
ation. It is undoubtedly an honor and a privilege to have the chance to give
their best to the students and to "carry on for Simmons o' iMnc."
Frances Oldham seemed to have a
busy program lo&t week-end. That's
the way with home town boys they
will come and get your mind off of
your books.

Ripley's "Believe It or Not" which
recently told of Charlie Paddock's fa-
mous "8.9" for the century back In
1023 is food for thought. The Illus-
trious Paddock was in his prime then
and his time was made with a flying
start. It would be interesting to know
what Lcland could do it in with a
flying start. With starting blocks as
his only aid he has sped it in half
a second slower time. Perhaps he
can be induced to try tho running
start some time. If he docs Ripley
will have another good one for his
books. S. M. U.
