SIX WHITE HORSES TRYOUTS
PRODUCE NEW MEMBERS
"One through eight!" Deborah Jones hollered
out as the girls nervously stepped out of the
crowd and walked to the horses. The contest-
ants were to see which one could groom sad-
dle and ride the horses the best and the fastest.
The cowgirls varied from individuals having
ridden horses since they were two years old to a
few that had only ridden during vacation. Denise
Duke was one of these few that never had
owned a horse but fell in love with riding the
moment she eased on the saddle.
Some girls simply just wanted to be involved
in an organization of excellence.
"I just wanted to get involved somewhere
and the Six white Horses seemed like some-
thing good to do" said history major Angela
Riggs. Riggs transferred to HSU as a junior and
now is working on her senior year; she has also
been riding off and on since she was ten years
of age.
After the last contestant was finished the
girls called it a day and anticipated whether or
not they would continue riding on the Six White
Horses. Though the pickings were tough
Deborah Jones the director bookkeeper
recruiter coach veterinarian horse breaker and
den mother made her final decision.
All the ladies who tried out did a wonderful
jobl Our new Six White Horse riders are Crystal
Kooksy Lindsey Galloway Jennifer Gilbreth
Leslie Jacobs Casey Jones Jenny Lambert
Genea Southard and Tracy Vincan.
