BSM students provide joyous
holiday for less fortunate children
By Charissa Bowers
staff writer
Many first second and third graders
from Johnson and Ortiz elementary schools
will enjoy a merrier Christmas this holiday
because of the selfless effort of over ISO
Hardin-Simmons University students that
sacrificed their afternoon on Tuesday.
Despite projects tests and upcoming
finals the Baptist Student Ministry's
Children's Ministry through their Adopt-A-Child
program has collected 60 couples
who have volunteered 3 hours and $5 a
piece to spend an afternoon with a less for-
tunate child.
Toai Riccio BSM's Children
Mkiistry Leader and her team of students
coordinated the afternoon's events which
included the Christmas story told by the
Puppet Ministry a visit from Santa Claus
(during which each child received a gift)
a meal in the cafeteria and free time with
the HSU students.
The elementary children are selected
by school counselors based on need.
"We ask the counselors to find kids
who we can help make them have a better
Christmas. . . those who are less fortunate
than others" said Riccio.
Adopt- A-Child has been a tradition at
Hardin-Simmons for over 17 years.
