Family Psychology Center Offers
Children of Divorce Program
Media Relations Release
Hardin-Simmons University's Family Psychology Center will be
offering a Children of Divorce program to begin Thursday March 23
and run through April 27. The six weekly meetings will be held every
Thursday from 6 to 7:30 p.tn.
The program is designed to help children and their parents deal
with the changes and stresses brought on by divorce. Participation by
both children and parents should lead to a better understanding and
increased ability to cope with the emotional and psychological apsects
of the process.
The program is designed to assess the specific needs of each child
who is required to be in grades one through five Additionally a week-
ly parent support group will be held to aid in parents' understanding
of their children's behavior and to help deal with the children.
The divorce must be final.
The emphasis will be on developing family strengths through the
approximately 20 hours of service to each family.
The program is designed as a public service by the Family
Psychology Center and as a result there is no fee. It will be held every
Thursday in Abilene Hall on the HSU campus.

Worship takes on a lot of dif-
ferent forms. It is not just sitting
in a sanctuary and listening to a
preacher talk. There is a lot more
to it You can sit in a church ser-
vice sing all the songs keep your
eyes closed during the entire
prayer and even take notes on
the sermon but still not really
worship. Why is that not wor-
ship? It is not worship unless you
are ready for it
Sunday morning is a time
that we get up early dress up and
go to church. Does it really mean
anything to us? To some people it
is okay but to others there is
something lacking. There should
be more to it. Sundays run
together after a while unless we
make them significant and mem-
orable. It is up to us to decide
what we get out of a service. You
must have an attitude of worship.
It just doesn't happen on .its own.
There must be an effort put forth
by yourself.
We each worship in different
ways. Some of us worship
through song others through
prayer and others through a good
sermon. Each person has a differ-
ent idea of true worship. No one
way is better than another.
Praise songs my personal
favorite have made a dramatic
impact on the services of the tra-
ditional Baptist church. For those
of us who grew up in a Baptist
church we can remember
singing the first second and last
verse of hymns. I enjoyed those
hymns but it seems as though
praise songs have helped Baptist
church services become more
subjected to true worship.
I believe that we should move
away from the bulletins that spell
out the service and become more
spontaneous. Worship occurs
when the people present are will-
ing for it to happen. Jeremiah
29:13 states You shall seek me
and find me when you search for
me with all your heart. We must
seek out God. It is difficult to
seek God if there is not chance in
the service to do it. With the
entire service laid out for us we
do not have an opportunity to
seek God and invite Him to be a
part of the service. I'm sorry but
the offertory just doesn't do it
especially if the offering is taken
at the end of the service like at
my home church. God must be
there for worship to occur and we
must be able to ask Him to join
us.
I always enjoy visiting the
church at which my grandparents
are members. They do not have
an "order of service." They
invite God to join them at the
beginning of the service and then
they leave the service open for
the Spirit to move. It is not
unusual for the entire service to
be filled with singing both of
hymns and praise songs. Other
times it will be a service of
prayer. God is sought and it is
apparent that He is found.
God wants us to worship
Him. The way you worship is
between you and God.
Remember however that you
must seek Him with all your
heart. Only then will you find
Him and have true worship.
