Clinton Swears in "Domestic Peace Corps"

President Clinton swore
thousands of young
Americans into his
AmeriCorps program Sept.
12 calling the volunteers the
nation's "next generation of
heroes."
"We look to you and
know you are no generation
of slackers but a generation
of doers" President Clinton
told the more than 300
AmeriCorps volunteers gath-
ered on the front porch of the
White House for the hour-
long ceremony.
In addition to the volun-
teers at the White House
nearly 20000 other volun-
teers at 14 sites nationwide
were sworn in by the presi-
dent earlier in the day via
satellite.
"There is nothing wrong
with America that can't be
fixed by what is right" said
Clinton who was joined by
Vice President Al Gore and

internationally acclaimed
dance production for the
whole family will be present-
ed at HSU's Behrens
Auditorium Friday and
Saturday Sept. 23-24 at
7:30p.m.
Toymaker's Dream writ-
ten by Colin Harbinson
depicts the biblical account
of Man's creation fall from
God's grace in the Garden of
Eden and redemption provid-
ed by the life of Jesus Christ.
The production allegorizes
God as the "Toymaker"
whose creations live in
Union.
The Texas State BSU in
conjunction with the Baptist
General Convention of
Texas sent 120 student sum-
mer missionaries throughout
the United States and the
world last summer. This
included eight HSU students
help cure some of the
nation's ailments. The new
national service program
employs thousands of college
students in community pro-
grams that focus on public
safety education human
needs and the environment.
"dreamland." Satan is por-
trayed as the "Dream Hater"
who schemes to have the toys
rebel against the Toymaker.
The show is an elaborate
combination of music dance
and mime combined with
brilliant costumes and color-
ful make-up to tell a captivat-
ing story of love hope and
dreams. The production is set
to an original music score
and includes over a quarter of
a million dollars in lighting
sound and special effects
with an impressive laser light
show.
