Texas, the Office of Rio Grande Compact Commissioner for Texas, the Office
of Sabine River Compact Administrator for Texas, the Multi-State Water
Resources Planning Commission, and the Texas Water Development Board.
Sec. 25. PENSIONS AND INVESTMENTS. The committee shall have
nine members, with jurisdiction over all matters pertaining to:
(1) benefits or participation in benefits of a public retirement system
and the financial obligations of a public retirement system;
(2) the regulation of securities and investments; and
(3) the following state agencies: the Office of Fire Fighters' Pension
Commissioner, the State Board of Trustees of the Teacher Retirement System,
the State Board of Trustees of the Employees Retirement System, the Board
of Trustees of the Texas County and District Retirement System, the Board
of Trustees of the Texas Municipal Retirement System, the State Pension
Review Board, and the State Securities Board.
Sec. 26. PUBLIC EDUCATION. The committee shall have nine members,
with jurisdiction over all matters pertaining to:
(1) the public schools and the public school system of Texas and
the financing thereof;
(2) the state programming of elementary and secondary education for
the public school system of Texas;
(3) proposals to create, change, or otherwise alter school districts of
the state; and
(4) the following state agencies: the State Board of Education, the
Texas Education Agency, the Office of Compact for Education Commissioner
for Texas, the Office of Southern Regional Education Compact Commissioner
for Texas, the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, the State
Board for Educator Certification, and the Texas School for the Deaf.
Sec. 27. PUBLIC HEALTH. The committee shall have nine members,
with jurisdiction over all matters pertaining to:
(1) the protection of public health, including supervision and control
of the practice of medicine and dentistry and other allied health services;
(2) mental health and mental retardation and the development of
programs incident thereto;
(3) the prevention and treatment of mental illness and mental
retardation;
(4) oversight of the Health and Human Services Commission as it
relates to the subject matter jurisdiction of this committee; and
(5) the following state agencies: the Texas Department of Mental
Health and Mental Retardation, the Texas Department of Health, the Texas
Board of Health, the Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, the
Anatomical Board of the State of Texas, the Texas Funeral Service
Commission, the State Committee of Examiners in the Fitting and Dispensing
of Hearing Instruments, the Board of Vocational Nurse Examiners, the Texas
Optometry Board, the Radiation Advisory Board, the Texas State Board of
Pharmacy, the Board of Nurse Examiners, [the Teas B uard of Nursing
