Keeter Award to be
presented Saturday
One of the 1973 homecoming
highlights will be the presentation
of the annual John J. Keeter Award
to an outstanding alumnus on
Saturday.
The Keeter Award was estab-
lished by the late John J. Keeter
Sr. Throckmorton rancher and lon-
gtime trustee and supporter of H-
SU and Mrs. Keeter. It is a memor-
ial to their son John J. Keeter Jr.
a World War II victim.
The award is presented each year
to the ex who has contributed most
in his particular field of endeavor
toward the betterment of the
University and the greatest service
to the school directly or indirectly.
Charles Logsdon of Abilene last
year's recipient will present the
engraved plaque to this year's
winner. The recipient's name will be
placed on a plaque displayed perma-
nently in Moody Center bearing the
names of all past recipients of the
award.
Past recipients include Rupert H.
Johnson New York City 1943; Bar-
ney Carter Tyler 1944; Raymond
Foy (deceased) of Dallas and J. D.

Homecoming days are very special for all of us. The
presence of many exes from far and near is a wonderful
experience for those of us in the campus family of today.
We extend a warm and sincere welcome to all of
you who have come back to your university. We want
to meet you share with you and do everything we can
to make the 1973 Homecoming a memorable event for

Homecoming gives
music special role
"Music Thru the Years" is playing
a most important role in Homecom-
ing activities throughout today and
tomorrow.
Ex-students and former faculty
from around the state and nation
will be on campus to celebrate the
school's 82nd year and the Cowbov
Band's 50th anniversary.
Tonight's "Sing It Again" starts
music festivities off and will be
voiced in Behrens Chapel at 7:30.
Featured will be the Concert Band
Singers Ho! Concert Choir and
Chorale.
Former choral directors who are
to be present to lead exes in song
are Prof. Ed Hamilton of Knoxville
Tenn. who served during the 1960's
as acting dean of the School of Music;
Dr. Morris Beacy director of choral
activities at the University of Texas
in Austin a faculty member 1955-
Groundbreaking set
for new recital hall
Groundbreaking ceremonies for
the Woodward-Dellis Recital Hall
will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday
Feb. 17 during homecoming
activities.
Dr. Jack Dean head of the School
of Music said it is hoped that the
facility will be completed by "late
summer" and ready for use for the
1973-74 school year.
All specifications for the modern
two-story brick building are ready
for contractors' bidding Dean said.
The Tittle Luther and Loving
architectual firm of Abilene
designed the recital hall. .
The building is being made possi-
ble by proceeds from the estate of
a prominent Abilenian.
Estimated cost will be
approximately $200000 Dr. Dean
said. The project is a part of the
"Profile for Progress" plan foi the
1970s.
H-SU was the principal benefac-
tor in the will of Mrs. J. L. Dellis
who lived at 1546 N. 2nd and died
June 25 1970. She was preceded in
death by her husband a well known
civil engineer a son Joseph Lloyd
Jr. and a daughter Mrs. Orleanor
Dellis Kinsey a graduate of H-SU
School of Music.
"Mrs. Dellis was a wonderful
friend of H-SU" said Dr. Elwin
Skiles H-SU president and her
former pastor at First Baptist
Church.
Mrs. Dellis was the former Ellen
Orleanor Woodward. Both the
Woodward and Dellis families have
been associated closely with
Hardin-Simmons for many years.
Dellis held two degrees from
Hardin-Simmons and Mrs. Dellis'
brother Ed Woodward also
attended. Both men were among the
first recipients of the Gold Medall-
ions issued by H-SU during its 75th
Anniversary year.
Dr. Dean said the Woodward-
Dellis recital hall will seat 300 peple

After the program Saga Foods will
sponsor a "Kowboy Kofffee Korral"
with food and fellowship in Moody
Center.
Tomorrow morning there is an Ex-
Cowboy Band coffee scheduled for 9
o'clock in the Donnell Rehearsal
Room of Cowboy Band Hall.
The Keeter Award presentation
will be made to an alumni tomorrow
by Charles Logdon 1972 recipient
at a 10:30 a.m. program in Behrens
Chapel. Also new Alumni Associa-
tion officers will be revealed.
Following these presentations
and a short memorial honoring all
exes who died last year the Cowboy
and Concert Bands will present
their 50th anniversary program
"Play It Again."

Keeter award recipients will follow
a report on "Profile for Progress" by
Dr. Elwin Skiles.
The "Singing Men" and Brass
Ensemble will provide music at the
affair.
"Talk It Over Again" will give
former faculty and students a
chance for conversation during 2-4
p.m. in Moody Center's Beckham
Lounge.
Open houses for campus facilities
featuring the ultra-modern Cowboy
Band Hall are planned to begin at
3 p.m.
Also during the afternoon a recep-
tion in Moody Center will be spon-
