Field House Saturday night after
having returned Thursday from
an unsuccessful two-game road
trip in Las Cruces N. M. with the
New Mexico State Aggies.
H-SU faced Midwestern once
before this season in Wichita
Falls losing to them by seven
points.
The first game' Tuesday night
was a losing 88-80 battle as the
Pokes fought back from a 23-
vpoint deficit to the eight-point
margin.
Lack of rebounds was the main
difference in the game as the
Aggies out-rebounded the Cow-
boys by a sizeable 50-29 margin
though the Cowboys shot a
torrid 53 per cent ending the
game with a good 48 per cent the
Position Is Open
For Bronco Staff
Applications are now being re-
ceived for assistant editor of the
Bronco a position vacated by
Rhonda Fluhart of Florrisant
Mo. when she left school be-
tween semesters.
Application blanks may be
obtained at the Journalism Office
in Mary Frances Hall or the of-
fice of Dr. Lloyd Huff in Abilene
Hall. Dr. Huff is chairman of the
Publications Committee and has
called a meeting of the commit-
tee for 2 p.m. Wednesday Feb.
12 to consider a replacement for
Miss Fluhart. Editor of the
Bronco is Charles Cason of Sub-
lette Kans. The other assistant
editor is Candice Wilkinson of
Parkersburg W. Va.
Pokes could not overcome the
height advantage" and the re-
bounds pulled in by G-10 Sam
Lacey 0-8 Jeff Smith and others
ranging from 0-0 to 0-7.
Bill Starks who scored 14 of
his points the first half led the
Cowboy aggregation with 20
points. He was closely followed
by J. W. Fairman with 19 points.
Fairman also grabbed 15 re-
bounds. Others scoring in double fig-
ures for the Pokes were Cliff
Harris with 12 and Max Brown-
lee with 10.
Again troubled by rebounding
added with troublesome shooting
eyes (24 per cent the initial frame)
the Pokes lost the second game
Wednesday to the Aggies this
time by 103-78 the worst defeat
of tfie season for the Cowpokes.
Falling behind 51-28 at the
half the Pokes could not close
the' margin throughout the rest
of the game. NMS led rebound-
ing by 25-18 the first half and
almost doubled the shooting ef-
forts of the Cowboys (45 per
cent). H-SU managed to shoot
29 times the first half making
seven of them while the Aggies
ranked 13th in one poll and 10th
in another shot 44 times hitting
20 of them.
Cliff Harris led H-SU scoring
with 14 points followed by Fair-
man with 13 John Moomaw
scoreless the first half with 11
Curly Bailey with 11 and Brown-
lee with 10.
Big Sam Lacey led the Aggies
with 23 followed by Jimmy Col-
lins with 19 and three others in
double figures amounting to 75 of
the 103 points for NMS.
H-SU's record now stands at
8-12 with six games remaining.
