Choosing a bank is an impor-
tant task.
It's your money so you should
carefully shop for the bank that.
provides the services you will
need at a cost that you can af-
ford. Cost is probably for the stu-
dent the most important factor
in choosing a bank. Many
students however assume all
banks charge the same amount.
This is not true. Our survey of
Abilene banks and savings and
loans associations showed a
range from free to $7.50 per
month.
A second aspect which should
be considered in choosing a
bank is service.
If you need just a basic check-
ing account there is no need to
pay a large monthly fee.
If however you anticipate
needing such services as auto or
consumer loans or investment
services perhaps you should
consider a full service account.
Also if you will need a
automatic teller machine card
you may have to pay a higher
monthly charge.
The third factor to consider is
location. Is a low monthly cost
goinq to outweiqh the cost of
several trips to the bank? The
bankinq hours should also be
considered.
The followinq are charqes
and services offered by local
banks for basic checkinq ac-
counts. Other accounts are of-
fered which may suit you needs
better.
