Juniors seniors join for social
By Tim Sfmmonds
Optimist Staff
The juniors and seniors were
wanted for a social in the wild
wild west and Thursday night
about 250 saddled up for the occa-
sion. "We wanted to do a social early
in the semester because things get
hectic as time goes" said Torrcy
Barnhouse junior class president
and psychology major from
Springfield Mo.
'The idea of a Western theme
was for its originality and every-
body could dress casual."
The Students' Association ar-
ranged the music through KTLC-
FM and a meal by Harold's Pit
Bar-B-Q was provided free to
those who attended.
"Well almost free" said Barn-
house. We feel this is an empha-
sis on giving them back something
from their S A dues."
"Apparently this attitude caught
on" said Jody MacDonald junior
finance major from Kingwood
about receiving a return for his SA
dues.
"It was a great idea and I final-
ly tlwught I was getting something
back from the SA" he said.
For the first time in a number of
years the junior and senior class
officers organized a combined
social.
"It was very nice to see the
juniors and seniors together hav-
ing fun" said LaNlta Burgess
senior psychology major from
Austin.
Several members of the Junior
Associate Senate helped wkh tuts
project.
This was their fust opportunity
to get involved and they will be
used to a greater extent in the
future Barnhouse said.
"Torrey and his officers did a
wonderful job planning and orga-
nizing the social" said Paul Raia-
scy senior class president and pal-
pit ministry major from Denver. 1
was glad I was able to be a part of
it."
