All wlnnen lit the Ketta Scott Gar-
rett Creative Writing Contest were to
receive their award In Chapel Tues-
day. A. reception In their honor will
take place tonight at 7:30 in the living
Room of the McGlothlln Campus
Center.
The reception also will honor the
trirmeer staff anA the authors of the
Pichoicker said Chris Willcrton pro-
fessor of English
The annual contest for ACU
students Is in honor of the late Mrs.
Rctta Scott Garrett. Mrs. Garrett
taught English at ACU from 1935 to
1958 and was a' sponsor of the
Pickwickian club and of the
Pickm'cker. She was also an author of
two collections of poetry Afy Children
and Dream Smoke. The contest was
sponsored by the ACU chapter of
Sigma Tou Delta the national English
honors society.
A total of $300 in cash prizes was
divided among the winners. This was
the largest amount ever given said
Willcrton. All place winners and
honorable mention winners received
money.
In the poetry division Bruce Alder-
man freshman English major from
Houston won first second and third
for his works. Leslie Jill Patterson
sophomore English major from Bed-
ford won fourth place.
Four honorable mentions went to

Honorable mentions went to Jeffrey
Peterson junior Bible and Greek ma-
jor from Galena Park; Leah Harrell
senior English major from Odessa;
Karen Cukrowskl an ACU graduate
from Garland; and Gerald Drisklll a
graduate student in human com-
munications from Fort Worth.
In the essay division LaNelle
Ohlhausen a freshman chemistry ma-
jor lYora Abilene won first place. Pen-
ny Boggs freshman English major
from San Antonio won second andl
Ken Cukrowskl won third. Paula w
Powers a freshman mass communica-
tion news editorial major from
Wichita Kan. received the only
honorable mention given in this
division.

Faculty wives to
give fashion show
Monday cheerleader tryouts begin with clinic
- Tryouts for the 1985-86 varsity
cheerleading squad will begin Monday
with a three-day clinic to prepare pro-
tpective .cheerleaders for the. series of
auditions which will begin April 9.
The clinic which will be taught by
the some of the present .cheerTeaaers
will take place Monday; Wednesday
and Thursday afternoons at 4:30
behind Moody ColiseumThe. re-
quirements for the tryouts which will
be taught during the clinic include
two cheers two chants two partner
stunts and a routine tq the fight-song.
The first tryout which will serve as
a screening to select semi-finalists for
further' auditions will take place April
9 said Nelson This tryout will be
judged by a panel of National
Cheerleader Association qualified
judges.
The final audition for the semi-
finalists will take place during Chapel
April 10 he said. The student body
will serve as the judges for this final
competition.
The tryouts will take place In front
of the students this year because of
preferences indicated in early results
from the cheerleader evaluations
In the past tryouts took place in
front of the student body however
last year the cheerleaders were judged
by NCA judges.
"We feel like the student body
should have a hand in selecting the
cheerleaders who are going to repre-
sent their school" said Nelson.
The tryouts are open to any student
with a least a 2.0 grade point average.
The ACU faculty wives will present
a spring fashion show in coordination
with Fischers Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in
Cullen Auditorium.
The show is free to the public and
will feature a reception after the show.
Karen Hester coordinator of the
fashion show and owner of Fischers
said models will present clothes from
seven segments during the spring fa-
slon show. The segments include
clothing made at home by the wives of
ACU faculty members and six other
segments from Fischels. v The six
scKmcmt are street wear cruise wear
little girl fashions the bridal group
after five and social and banquet
dresses.
ACU faculty members staff and
students will participate as models.
The reception alter the show will be
catered by Kary Brock of The Guest
House said Hester. The reception will
feature food found at a wedding recep-
tion along with sandwiches said
Hester.
Stir Ferguson will provide the wed-
ding cake at the reception said Hester.
