Men Sent Offers Tuesday
It all began so quietly. A
murmuring of carefully
shielded voices buzzed in Nel-
son parlor as Dean of Women
Mrs. W. C. Sikes called out
name after name.
This was the long-awaited
bid night for women's social
clubs. This was Monday a
night when many ACC co-eds
closed their eyes at bedtime
and reviewed the evening's
events with a rapturous feel-
ing of ecstacy.
OTHERS BURIED their heads
in disappointment. The coveted
bids had not come through.
The relatively calm atmosphere
described above was only indica-
tive of the near riot that was too
follow. Mrs. Juanita Donaldson
hostess at Nelson hall had mixed
emotions about the eruption of
enraptured females she knew
was coming.
"We'll get through it some
way" she said.
About 9 p.m. it came. Nelson
resounded with the fervor of a
country hoe-down. The pent up
excitement of weeks of expecta-
tion unleased itself in a howling
tornado of flying skirts and
shouting voices.
IT WAS NO place for a man.
An Optimist reporter and photo-
grapher both males didn't
have to be told this but were
anyway as they entered Nelson
to record the activities. 'No men
allowed" boomed Dear. Sikes as
the twi made their entrance.
They beat o hasty retreat and
succeecded in getting 1hcir photos
and story only after having re-
sorted to a hands-and-knees re-
entry. Tuesday morning the women
who accepted bids breakfasted
