Olympian?
Will he make it against tho nation's best? This is the ques-
tion that Jimmy Weaver has been trying to answer against
Olympic hopefuls in early season runs. He will probably be
at the Southwest Louisiana Relays tomorrow with ACC's
Bobby Morrow and Bill Woodhouse.
event the distance medley relay.
Misfortune plagued the Wild-
cats throughout the meet. First
Calvin Cooley scratched in the
120 high hurdles ttien the 880
relay quintet faltered when
George Peterson and Frank Tay-
lor failed to make contact at the
first handoff.
THE WILDCAT mile relay
team withdrew after anchorman
Earl Young suffered a musclo
cramp in a futile effort to over-
haul Baylor's Bill Hollis in the
440-yard relay.
About the only thing ACC fans
had to cheer besides the relay
victory was the performance of
Bobby Morrow. Morrow lunged
in the last yard to nip Jimmy
Weaver at the tape in the 100
meter special. His time into a
three mile wind was 10.6.

ACC to Defend Crown
Against Eight Colleges
By MIKE CUMMINGS
North Texas State's Richard
Menchaca and ACC's Jarrell Ed-
wards will hold the spotlight in
the 880-yard run at the North
Texas Relays in Denton tomor-
row. Menchaca's 1:151.0 at the Fort
Worth Recreational meet Is the
best time in the state this year.
Edwards who finished second be-
hind the North Texas half-mller
clocked a 1:52.5 his best time this
year.
THE TWO weren't matched in
the 880 at the Texas Relays but
Jarrcll's 3:00.0 for the 1320 in the
distance medley waxed Menchaca
and the other entries. ACC won
this event in 10:00.2 anchored by
Thomas O'Neal's 4:12.5 mile.
ACC will defend its 1959 Noith
their first game against Trinity
on a recent road trip to San
Antonio but lost the other three
outings. Another defeat by
Tarleton State Monday dropped
the ACC record to 1-6 going in-
to a double-header with West
Texas State Wednesday.
The 1960 season has progress-
ed much like last year's for ACC.
The Wildcats dropped five of
their first seven games coming
alive to close strong with a 16-7
mark.
NICHOLSON gave two reasons
for the running attack change.
"We believe that it will give us
a hew life a new enthusiasm and
secondly it worked well for other
teams in the nation last year" he
explained.
The head mentor said that he
hopes to end each week weather
permitting with an intra-6quad
game. The first two Saturdays
they will not have a game-conditioning
game but will go
through plenty of hard scrim-
mage. On the final two Saturdays of
April they will stage game-
condition intra-squad matches.
AMONG THE 40 returnees 10
are lettermen as ACC lost only
nine letter winners from the 1959
squad. Of the first unit only three
players were lost end Robert
Nickerson quarterback Bobby
Powell and fullback BUI Locke.
Charles Richardson a three-
year lctterman end from the 1957
team will return from military
service this fall to give the Wild-
cats a total of 20 returning lettermen.
