Thomas Returns from Orient
With Tapes and Films of Tour

Dr. J. D. Thomas Professor of
Bible and Director of Lectureship
has just returned to the ACC
Campus from a six week tour of
the Far East. During the six
weeks he visited Okinawa For-

Abilene Christian College staff
members were given a Christmas
get-together by the two campus
service organizations the Tues-
day before holidays began ac-
cording to Warren Wilcox presi-
dent of Circle "K."
This men's organization joined
the Campus Service Organization
a women's group in refreshments
and entertainment in the Stu-
dent's Activity Center.
Nancy Miller arranged the pro-
gram which included group sing-
ing and humorous script reading.
The evening was ended with a
devotional service.
Wilcox stated that response
from this party will determine
whether this activity will be-
come an annual affair.

in Japan and one week in Korea
Dr. Thomas made a total of 67
stops. He conducted many con
ferences on problems confronting
mission work in the Far East.
Interpreters were used to relay
Dr. Thomas's words to those who
spoke Oriental languages.

Christmas Carols.

Other tape recordings brought
back include one of a Chinese
worship service in which Dr.
Thomas preached.
Dr. Thomas made a speech in
Seoul Korea to about 200 young
men on the subject of Commun-
ism and Christianity.
"THE DEAD Sea Scrolls" was
the topic of a speech made to the
Rotary Club in Hitachi Japan.

$1300 Gift Being Used
In Home Ec Improvement
Paving and landscaping will
soon be done at the Adams Home
Management House as the result
of a $1300 gift to the Abilene
Christian College Home Econom-
ics department.
The benefactor Is Earnest D.
Garrett of Shreveport La. father
of Miss Merle Garrett instructor
of Home Economics.
Dean Walter H. Adams and his
wife gave the home management
house to the college in 1957. It is
used to house college girls who
live in the home for eight-week
periods as part of their home eco-
nomics study program.
Miss Garrett Is supervisor of
such resident girl?.
Classes of Miss Burnya Mae
Moore Associate Professor of
Home Economics began planning
the home management improve-
ments. Miss Moore said that most
of the work was done over the
holidays.
The landscaping is being done
by North Park Nursery.
Morris and Bailey Participate
In Freed-Hardeman Lectures
Don H. Morris president of
Abilene Christian College and
George Bailey minister of the
College Church of Christ are par-
ticipating in the annual Freed
Hardeman Lectureship this week.
Morris spoke Monday evening
In the church auditorium located
near the campus of the Hender-
son Tennessee Christian college.
Tuesday night found him
speaking in the college auditor-
ium. The subject chosen for these
two lectures concerned the Bible
and education.
Wednesday night Bailey spoke
In the church auditorium and
Thursday night in the college
auditorium His topic was "The
Bible the Hope of Man."
This 1959 lectureship on the
theme "The Bible Book of
Books" will operate on a full
schedule.
According to Bailey probably
35 to 50 men will participate in
the conclave of Christians.
Both men are to return to Abi-
lene tomorrow.

Thomas observed. To illustrato
his statement he told of an ex-
hibition on many manufactured
goods in Hong Kong.
The display that attracted more
people was a common bedroom
suite.

Dr. Thomas said that the peo-
ple in the Far East have a lot of
respect for Americans. This aids
the preaching of the Gospel to the
Orientals.
Dr. Thomas pointed out that
these people were very receptive
to Christ and His Word.
Plans for speeches are now
being made for this locality ac-
cording to Dr. Thomas. As an aid
in his speeches he will use from
500 slides and the 15 minute
motion picture that he took of his
travels.

'Bean Murol Would Be Painted
As Project of Sophomore Class
Although not yet approved by
the Dean a mural to be painted
in the west wall of Catchings
Cafeteria is in the planing stage
as this year's sophomore class
project according to Jack Hor-
vath president.
If1 it is approved It is to be
painted by a professional artist
and is to be finished by the end of
this school year.
In a class meeting before the
holidays the sophomores voted on
five projects submitted by class
officers sponsors and the class
council.
SECOND to the mural In voting
was a clock and wind gage for the
track stadium; next was the mak-
ing of blueprints for a student
center.
If the mural does not pass all
requirements the clock and blue-
prints will be submitted in order
for approval.
