ing announcement: Joseph
Shearman will no longer
be a part of Howard Payne
University next semester.
Shearman an upper-division
RadioTV. major has
decided to transfer after HPU
announced it was discontinu-
ing RTV and Public Relations
as' academic majors. Shearman
also lost his part-time job as'
Operations Manager of KHPU
the university-owned radio sta-
tion that will be taken off the

"I'm extremely upset about
the loss of RTV and even more
furious about the loss of our
radio station" Shearman said.
"These two things not only
helped me have a scholarship
but they also paid my bills."
After deliberating dur-
ing their April 1 meeting the
HPU Board of Trustees voted
to discontinue offering Radio
Television and Public Relations
as stand-alone majors. Citing
details of cost and demand
Dr. William Mark Tew vice
president for academic affairs
indicated the administration
recommended this action to
strengthen the program offer-
ings in the more-general area
of communication studies.
"We take no" pleasure in
reducing majors" said Dr.
Lanny Hall HPU president.
"But we do "believe this action
is in the best interest of every-
one concerned and represents
aggressive leadership by the
board. All juniors and seniors
in these two majors will have
the opportunity to graduate on
time and with their intended
major."
