Behind the scenes with the Theatre Dept. an
By Sara McRight

Comedy can be
fun but it can
also require hard
work as HPU's Theatre
Department is finding.
"Opal's Baby." a
comedy written by John
Patrick will be pei-
fornicd by the fheatic
Department l-'eb. 26th
through March Is'.
Thursday through
Saturday's performance
will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Sunday's will begin at
2:30 p.m..
"Opal lives at the
edge of a junkyard in
Arkansas. She collects
things from it and sells
them and has actually
done rather well for her-
self through the years
- selling what other
people have cast off"
Dr. Nancy Jo Humfeld.
the director of the play
said.
Opal is joined by
several other characters
- a next door neighbor
and "Kronkies" who
pretend to be her rela-
tives. "A guy named
Norman comes in with
his family and he pre-
tends to be Opals' long
lost cousin." Chris
McMurtry one of six
cast members said.
"Norman and his clan
want to swindle Opal
out of all her money so
they pretend that Verna
Norman's wife is sud-
denly (seven months)
pregnant."
As the story
unfolds more lies are
told and eventually the
characters are found
out.
"1 won't give away
the details because you
have to go see the show
but all ends well with
Opal safe and sound in
her city dump"
