Gceanus Exhibit
To Be Feature
Of State Fair
“Journey to the Bottom of
the Sea," and “20,000 Leagues
Under the Sea” may have been
Just fantasies of man’s Imagin-
ation once but today some of
the vessels and even some of the
underwater buildings used In
these stories are proving to be
more that. Juat fantasy.
The Oceanus exhibit at tha
1970 State Fair of Texas will
be cosponsored by Texas A&M
University and wUl have some
of these not-so-far-out exhib-
its from October 10*25 In Dal-
las. Theme for this year's
Fair—“Exposition of the Seven
Seas"—had a lot of bearing on
the Oceanus exhibit.
Oceanus Is really an exhibit
about oceanography, with exhib-
its from the Nary, the Depart-

Chicken Show
At State Fair
October 16-18
The Breeder Chicken and the
All Variety State Bantam Showe
at the 1970 State Fair at Texas
will be Oct. 16-18.
Anyone In the world U eligible
to enter these shows. Entries
will be accepted on a first-
coma-flrat-cooped beats.
Entries close Sept. 21, and the
fee Is $1 for each single and
$2 for each trio entered.
All birds for both shows must
arrive at the State Fair of Texas
tatton companies seams to be to
curtail service to small rural
areas and concentrate on met-
ropolitan areas. This trend.
If continued, could be disas-
trous to tha rural areas at the
state and nation.
Red Ball closed Its local
freight office here about two
years ago. The Railway Ex-
press office has been closed
hare. Another freight com-
pany dosed Its local office In
DeKalb, New Boston and An-
nooa, but Is still serving
Clarke villa.
Now, Continental Trail ways
Company has placed Its 12;4l
p.m. west bound bus on a non-
stop schedule through Clarks-
ville. If the trend continues,
another bus may be scheduled
non-stop through Clarksville.
In addition to prodding pas-
senger service, buses offer a
reasonably quick methodof get-
ting packages and small parcels
to communltiss served by bus
routes.
Many of the local citizens
and businesses rely on bus
transportation to obtain Items
or repair parts that are needed
Immediately. Tha 12:41 p.m.
west bound bus--that Is now
non-stop—Is capable of deliv-
ering merchandise to C larks-
dlle from Texarkana or
Shreveport within hours after
an order Is placed by telephone.
The point Is, Clarksville needs
more and better transportation
—not less. „
The Chamber Transportation
Committee Is of the opinion that
every bus passing through
Clsrksdlla should stop, espec-
ially during day time hours.
The Chamber’s official pro-
test to the bus company needa
to be supported by lndlddual
citizens and business firms,
who are requested to write to
the company and ask that tha
12:41 p.m. west bound bus
through Clarksville be returned
to a scheduled stop basis. Write
to: Mr. L. Eugene Brown, Gen-
eral Manager, Continental
Trailway* Bus Company, 315
Continental, Dallas, Texas
75207.

Popular Meeting Place
The modernized Chamber
building Is being used by many
local troupe and organizations.
In June, 22 meetings were held
and In July there were 20 meet-
ings.
Taking Into consideration that
meetings are seldom scheduled
for Saturday and Sunday, you
can readily see that tha Cham-
ber’s meeting room Is very
much In demand.
“The modernized air con-
ditioned meeting room Is »valu-
able on a reserve basis for'
your use. If you haven’t seen
the Chamber’s new facilities,
drop by to see us; visitors are
always welcome," says Jamas
W. Vaughan, manager.

Annona Post
Office Sets
Clean-Up Date
Postmaster E. H. Butts has
announced that “Clean-Up
Week" will start August 16 at
the Annona Post Office. The
clean-up is part of a nation-
wide postal activity announced
In Washington by Postmaster
General Win too M. Blount.
The Postmaster General an-
nounced the program Sunday
“to establish tha post office as
a symbol of good housekeeping
and aa a credit to every com-
munity In the nation."
Locally, Postmaster Butts
said “Clean-Up Weak" will fo-
cus on such matters as floors,
walls, fixtures and exterior
areas. He said “our Post Of-
fice la one of tha busiest and
most visible activities In An-
nona and whatever we can do to
Improve It Is of special value
to our community."
sound effects to simulate being
under the set. It will be In the
New Dimensions Pavilion.
Tha Navy exhibit will Include
showing what Is contained In one
cubic mile of sea water and what
they are doing In oceanography
In the way of geographic studies
of the ocean floor.
The Energy Research and Ed-
ucation Foundation represent-
ing the oil Industry will display
modern surface vessels and >u>-
dar sea drilling rig#.
Tha National Geographic So-
ciety will have two transparen-
cies projected on fereen* of
maps of the ocean floors.
The National Science Founda-
tion’s Glomar Challenger Is s
deep see drilling project which
is taking core samples of the
ocean floor.
There will be a mock-up of
Sea cliff Turtle--at 2/3 scale—
a a mail exploratory submarine.
People will be able to walk in
the mock-up and see how It
steers and other things about
the submarine.
Armco Steel will present fu-
turistic designs by students of
various universities of vessels,
underwater hotels and even un-
derwater cities.
So It seems from what the
Oceanus exhibit at the Fair has
to offer that the fantasies at
“20,000 Leagues Under the
See" aren’t so fan tactic after
7 p.m. and must be cooped out
at the Poultry Building by 6 a.m.
Monday, Oct. 19. Birds return-
ed by railway, air express, or
motor freight will be shipped
Monday, Oct. 19.
The Breeder Chicken show
will be Judged Saturday, Oct.
17 beginning at 8 a.m. The
All-Variety State Bantam show
will be Judged Sunday, Oct. 18
beginning at 8 a.m. Eugene
Barnard, Charles City, Iowa,
will Judge both shows.
Premium List may be obtain-
ed by writing to Poultry De-
partment, State Fair of Taxes,

THE MIDI LOOK " /
The mtdl look la not Juat a hemline. It'a a total
fashion attituds. It says that a woman’s face Is far
more Intriguing than her knees. It Indicates a whole
new look In make-up—a more Intense kind of make-up
that plays up the face ... a rounded, feminine look
that echoes ths grace of a longer, more feminine
hemline.
The elements of ths new mldl look are:
1. A cool, creamy akin—balga makeup shades cre-
ate the perfect backdrop for tha excltment of
the Midi Look.
7 _ ■
2. A highbrow eye --brows brualied upward... light-
ened with brow tightener and toner to create a
rounded effect. No eye makeup Is complete
without eye lashes by Revlon.
a
3. A cherry cheek--not the naive look of a blusher
but a rounded, more exciting kind of accent
color.
4. A lucloue mouth--ripened with pink or bright
lively red...
9. We have all of this to give you that new MIDI
LOOK.
