A summer biology field trip
;o Mexico and Baja California
will offer eight students a chance
to study marine life and earn sue
hours credit according to Dr.
Kenneth Williams associate
professor of biology.
The names of the four men
and four women will not be
disclosed until next week Dr
Williams said.
The trip will begin the week
of May 9 and will last about six
weeks. The students will begin
preparing next week for the trip
by attending a two-hour session
each week until the semester
ends.
The cost will be about $700
First the students will travel
to Guaymas on the west coast of
Mexico where they will stay for
about two weeks. They will then
travel to Los Mochis further
south on the coast and go by
ferry to La Paz in Baja Call

There is a tremendous dif-
ference in the marine life found
in the warm water of the Sea of
Cortez and that found in the
cold water In .the Pacific Ocean
Dr. Williams said so the group
will make stops on both sides of
the peninsula as they travel
north to San Diego Calif.
The group will travel to the
area in a trailer which was made
by students about four or five
years ago.
The trailer also doubles as a
cook shack and two students
will stay in camp each day to
cook shop and help maintain
the camp. The two who stay at
the camp will also prepare a talk
to be given during the evening.
The other students go to the
field in the early morning return
to camp at noon and then go
back to the field until the
evening meal. An informal class

Pottery sent to Washington;
gifts for Texas senators reps
A select grouping of 30
pottery pieces created by stu-
dents of Dr. Art Williams will be
shipped this week to Washing-
ton D. C for presentation to
the Texas Congressional delega-
tion according to Dob Hunter
vice president of the university.

Chamber of Commerce invited
the class to create the pieces
which will be used as gift
momcntos at the Chamber's
banquet held March 8 in Wash-
ington. They will be given to
members of the House of

An academic lecture series
sponsored by the Academic
Committee of the Student
Senate will be held on the ACC
campus in about two weeks
according to Phil Ware com-
mittee chairperson.
The series scheduled for
March 7-12 will feature some
sever speakers chosen from a list
of those suggested by ACC
department heads.
The tentative schedule of
speakers and their topics is:

The pottery project came
about after Godfrey approached
Hunter with the idea in January.
Hunter talked to Dr. Williams of
the Art Department and Wil-
liams talked to his class. The
class liked the idea and work
was soon begun.
Each student created three
pottery vases one of which was
selected by Williams for the
grouping. The vases range from
8-10 inches in height and from
3-6 inches in width. Each con

The problem of transporting
the fragile pottery from Abilene
to Washington will be solved
with the help of two local
moving firms according to
Hunter.

The purpose of the series Ware
said is to make highly qualified
speakers available to the stu-
dents from various areas of
study.
The Students' Association is
funding the series this year in
hopes that the administration
will be able to help next year
with some of the cost Ware said.
The series will begin with a
dinner followed by the Hunter
lecture. The rest of the speakers
will be available to their respec-
tive departments during the day
and will address the general
public in the.evenings.
