Cats Rest On Second Rung In City League
James Stars But Indians Defeat
ACC Diamondeers For Third Time
McMurry now rides in first place
in City Longuo baseball since they
handed a G-2 defeat to ACC Monday
at Xunday field This was their third
victory over the Cats and completed
tho list of games carded between the
two schools. Bobby James with 3 for
5 was tho hitting star for ACC.
Tho Indians now boast a game and
a half lead over the second place
Wildcats.
Tho Braves won behind tho six-hit
hurling of Bob Shelton who with
perfect support would have had n
shutout. ACC took a ono run lead in
tho first and added another in tho
first of the third. The Indians picked
up ono in the third and scored enough
in tho fourth to win. Clifton Bcasley
slapped out a single to drive home
Shelton with tho clinching tally. Tho
Indians' defenso hinged on a pair of
sensational catches in left field. Bens-
Icy in right shagged two difficult
flics and center fielder Cotton Gann
robbed Kennamer of a hit in the fifth
by coming in very fast to tako his
smash just over second.
The Cats tangle with tho 158th Sat-

Support 'Em
Baseball the national pastime is
given less recognition on this campus
than perhaps any other sport. Per-
haps the underlying causo is that so
few Texas conference schools have
teams. Whatever the cause if you
want n genuine afternoon of enter-
tainment go down and see the Wild-
cat diamondeers perform. Right now
they arc pushing tho Indians for tho
lead.
That Taylor Boy Again
Joe Taylor gives all the credit for
his fine showing in recent years to
Kendall Jones Wildcat great of a
few years back. "Ho taught mo nil I
know" tho very modest Joe said.
Jones will likely be up for the bad-
minton meets coming up soon. Jones
is still among the best badminton
players in the state.
Here and There
The city badminton tournament has
been postponed. Tho now opening
date is Monday April 28. . . . The
spirit of the Wildcat cinder squad is
perhaps the most remarkable thing
on the campus. All year old man in-
jury has been breaking up good four-
somes just as soon as they got going
good. Still not one of the boys have
let up on their training. With a
spirit like that any team is going to
bo hard to beat. . . .
Ten years ago on April 25 the ACC
relaycrs Bulldog Gray Bill Weems
John Simons and Jesse Wood set a
new record at the Drake Relays
which coincides with April 25 1941
on which day the ACC relaycrs will
again attend the Drake Relays only
this time it is Beadles Womack Jack
son and Hughes. Will history repeat
itself? ... Bo Mooneyj who camo
here to play football will be an excel
lent recruit for tho basketball team
in the opinion of several cage rail-
birds . .Joe Beadles ono of the
school's outstanding athletes deprived
ACC of a fine football and basket-
ball lettcrman when ho decided to go
out for track exclusively Joe is a
glutton for hard work. A statistician
has pointed out that Joo has been
working out almost five months and
yet his actual performing time for
meets so far has added up to only
16.1 minutes. Place this alongside
the nine game sixty minute football
player and you see how little the
track men get to perform in propor-
tion to tho time put in on it. Joe
ono of the most likeable boys ever
in ACC claims ho still gets scared
at the beginning of a race as he did
when he ran his first one. However
onco he gets started he looks like the
only thing ho is afraid of is that he
won't set a new record.
Taylor Qualifies For National
Tennis Meet In Houston Tourney
Joe Taylor carrot topped ACC net-
tcr qualified for the National Inter-
collegiate last week by virtue of his
fine showing at tho qualifying meet
held in Houston.
In beating Rodgcrs of Rico seeded

doubt in the minds of the officials
about his being among tho top inter-
collegiate players in Texas. Joe took
Rodgcrs G 1 4 G G 4.
Taylor drew a first round bye and
defeated Blalock of Texas G 2 75
in his second round encounter.
The semi-final match between Joe
and Christncr of Texas was one of
tho fcaturo matches of the meet. The
boys games wcro evenly matched and
both used tho same system staying
in the back court and waiting for his
opponent to err. The Wildcat star
got off to a 4 2 lead in tho first
set but was finally outlasted by
Christner who copped the match
G 4 64.
The National meet will be held in
Philadelphia Pa. in tho middle of
June.
The Wildcat squad will busy them
selves this week and next in prepa-
ration for the Texas Conference meet
to bo held about tho middle of May.
