sition will be taken care of by Bcnford
Taylor.
Although losing tho Oklahoma game
by a largo score the Wildcats emerged
from tho defeat with but slight in-
juries. The extent olthe injuries are
.limited to a number scratches and
bruises which are expected by ball
clubs in every game.
The Wildcat line-up has tho advan-
tage over the Indian line-up from the

day. "Schc"shlp is important. Compe-
tition is becoming keen in securing
teaching positions" Morlan said.
"Ones' ability to form correct habits
of study" he explained "dependsjpoh
correct 'attitude definito .purpose
promptness and tho nbsenco of wor-
ry. There is an anxious and a pessi-
mistic attitude. The former embraces
a desiro for something worthwhile
while -with tho latter it is impossible
to succeed he said. Morlan here

makes for pleasant work."
It was further explained that physi-
cal health was a great factor in
study. Regular eating good eyesight
and regular exercise are factors which

students placed in the Atwater Kent
Radio contest held at the Hilton Ho-
tel Sept. 21.
Lucille Adrian n senior in tho col-
lege placed second in the contest for
women. There were twenty-one con-
testants. Harrison Munroe and Leonard
Burford who was graduated from the
cpllege in 1025 and received his di-
ploma in voice last June were judged
second and third respectively.

In the first' chapel exercise of the
year President Baxter nnd Dean Cox
ddresscd tho freshmen. A large crowd
of freshmen upper classmen and
relatives Was present.
Baxter first extended a wclcomo to
ail students new nnd-old. Ho said
that the rules of the school may seem
a bit hard at first but that "Liberty
is found in doing right" nnd .that if
a student always -does right tho rules
will- not infringe o.n his liberty. "If
a new student is not homcsicl; for n
while there Is certainly something the
matter with him or the home from
which he comes." Baxter 'told tho
new students that each now had n
clean slatb that tho career of each
one Is before him and "what you nrc
in college is what you will bo In life."
Dean Cox then addressed the as-
sembly on the subject of "College
Lifo." He said that the period when
one is in college Is tho most important
period in lifo for molding character
and that Abilene Christian College
tries to mold the right kind of char-
acters. Ho quoted "Education is the
development of an individual to tie
highest degree physically mentally
socially morally -and spiritually so
that tho individual may be best pre-
pared to servo God and man" and that
the purpose of Abileno Christian Col-
lege is to give this kind of education
to' its students.

amounted to but 172. Two days re-

ard Burford preaching morning and
evening respectively.
In his discussion of "The Practical
Tilings of Life" Bro. Reese warned
against the works of tlife flesh and
cited their resultant evil Paul's adt
monition to thu Epheslans for unity
and the putting on of tho now man
as . recorded in tho fourth chaptor
was the basis for the Sunday morn-
ings sermon. The speaker offered
Romans 8:8 as a comfort for all
Christians. "For I reckon that the
sufferings of this present time are
not worthy to bocompared with the
glory which shall be revealed in us."
Recounting tho experiences of
Jesus Christ In His three and pno-
half years- of ministry with charac-
ters of both good and evil Bro. Bur?
ford showed that Christ was either
rejected or accepted.' "There Is no
middle ground" he said. Mr. Bur-
ford is a graduate of Abilene Chris-
tian College and is a teacher of voice

ON USE OF LIBRARY
Miss Margaret Bishop librarian ad-
dressod tho chapel assembly Wbdnes-
day morning concerning the facilities
of the college library.
The freshmen were told by Miss
Bishop that tho library contains 10000
books and pamphlets one-half of
which ore new 'The absence of a
card catalogue at present" sho ex-
plained "extends a raro privilege;
that of personal selection. All books
are divided into ten classes embracing
philosophy religion sociology his-
tory philology fine arts and other
fields."
Miss Bishop named many old books
of unusual interest .that may be found
in tho library. She called attention
to tho 'numerous helpful reference
books the five daily newspapers and.
87 periodicals that the library regu-
larly recolves.
"The library contains fiction both
closical and modern. There is not
only a 'wealth of material for assigned
work but many books nnd magazines
for wholesome entertainment" she

Big Pep Rally and Bon Fire
Will Be Held Following
The Entertainment
Friday night is Collego Night. At
7:30 in tho Sewell Auditorium under
tho direction of Alfred Wells presi-
dent of the Student Association an in-
formal program will be given. Tho
program .will be varied and interest-
ing to nil students of Abileno Chris-
tian College. There will bo six dif-
ferent numbers. Mr. Wells states
that- the numbers will be presented in
swift succession with increasing pep
and enthusiasm until the program cul-
minates In a pep rally wltha huge
bonfire.
Jnck Burford and his sister Mabel
Burford will appear in a musical
number. Another musical number of
interest will bo given when Barnell
Berry nnd Pete Teddlie sing and play.
An interesting feature of th pro-
gram ''.will botho yodeling of Bill
Weoms. Ho will play his guitar and
Blng. The Kitten Club as a chorus
with Miss Cordelia Pago at tho piano
will sing.
Miss Hale and somo of her dramatic
students are 'preparing a short" skit
Tho exact nature of the skit Is not
known but it is expected to be hum-
orous and will movo fast to a roaring
climax. A male quartet will also sing
during tho program.
Immediately after tho program
under the direction of James Cham-
bers yell leader students will rally
around a huge bonfire preparatory
to helping the Wildcats fight the fol-
owing night 'when they face tho Mc-
Murry Indians on the gridiron for tho
first time in. tho history of the two
schools. There will be short speeches
from players and school lenders rela-
tive to tho coming game. Yells" will
bo given for tho football team and
somo of tho school songs will be practiced.

fair was hold in tho parlor of Zellner
hall for tho benefit of new students.
Tho purpose was to get Freshmen and

tertainment and to try to drive away

Miss Lois Manly a graduate of A. C.
C read a humorous selection "Who's
Afraid?" Then Miss Evelyn Tombs
sang two numbers accompanied by
Barnell Berry at tho piano. Miss
Wllma Baize songand played two
numbers.
. After Miss Marie Wills had told
the group how sho managed to bo so
popular a very pathetic duet was
sung by tho harmony twins Dell Alex-
ander and A. P. Davis accompanied

Abilene Christian College has n new
band director in the person of Mr.
Maurice G. Roberts who comes hero
from Polytechnic High School of Fort
Worth. Ho has held tho position of
commander in the. Polytechnic High
Band for two years and comes hero
highly recommended.
During tho West Texas Chamber of
Commerce convention in Abilene last
May Mr Roberts' brought his band
out to the college where a .splendid
concert was given. y
Mr. Roberts requests that -H boys
and girls who can play a band nstru-
ment and who have not seen him do
no at once as every instrument helps
