Dragonfly
Small dragonfly how swift you come
On black-barred wings of white
You seem to be a fairy steed
A dancing beam of light.
Why did you como hero dragonfly?
Whore from and when and how?
If you have flown past Heaven's gato
Why do you dance hero now 7
To you who flit so lightly
Among the grasses damp
Why do you not already bear
Sweet poesy's immortal stamp?
To some you are a dragonfly
That rose up from tho sod
To mo you aro a messenger
From tho immortal God.
Derrick Updegraff.

TASTE AT LEAST ONE
DEFEAT
The class baskotball fracas staged
just before tho holidays proved to be
an exciting one. Probably the out-
standing gamo of tho tournament was
tho defeat of tho Sophomores by tho
Juniors who wero footing the percent-
age column. Tho vlctor.was Injloubt
till the last minute of play and then
a nextrtf period was required to throw
tho gamo to the juniors. However in
spito ofjthis heart-breaking reverse
tho Sophs managed to tako the cham-
pionship when tho iish toppled tho
juniors for the krt gamo of tho tour-
nament s )
As is always tho caso tho class
games were closed. Tho seniors rated
as -the underdogs developed on amaz-
ing amount of fight and .copped their
first two games of tho series only.-to
loso to tho Sophs and Juniors. Tho
Fish rated as winners of tho toura-
ment dropped their first two games
and managed to tie tho Juniors and
Seniors for second place. Tho acad-
emy however threw tho biggest bomb
into the dopo bucket when thoy turn-
ed tho third year class back with a
thirteen to ton drubbing.
The sophs through' the generosity of
tho Fish wero given first place. Hav-
ing been knocked from tho perfect
perccntago column by the Juniors
their chance for the championship
seemed to hayo gono begging. Tho
awakening Fish again spilled tho dope
and trounced the Juniors twenty four
to twenty-two in a thrilling contest
which belonged to the third year class
till the last minute of play. That out-
burst of speed by the beginners avo
tho two year men a lcaso on tho class
championship fill its reoccurrence
next year.
The sophomores earned their title

OF PEGASUS
Or heard tho cnglng rnlssin'

To stop and look and listen.
I never broke an axle

In fact to tell tho honest truth
I never drovo a car.

The Vacation I Didn't nave .
I saw tho breakers crash and roll
Against tho rocky shoro
I saw tho sun shlno on tho sea
And shlno and shine somo more.
I saw tho tardy ships como in
From .strange and far off lands
I saw their cargoes stranger still
Of jado and silks and fans.
I saw majestic mountains lift
Their heads above tho plain
I saw tho desert burning hot
I saw tho tropic rain.
It was a grand vacation for
O'er .the whole world I might roam
And yet this long hot Bummer thru
I have not left my homo.
I havo not spent a slnglo cent
Yet all this I havo seen
