"JACOBS CANDIES"
C. L. JOHNSON PROP.
One of llio greatest services in llic his-
tory of llio Abilene Christian College con-
gregation of llio Cliurcli of Christ was
held Inst Sunday September the 25th.
President Jcsso P. Scwell delivered the
the annual Convocation Sermon to a large
audience. The scripture lcson was read
by Ilro. G. A. Klingman from the eighth
chapter of Itomans and Brother Scwell
took Homans 0:31 "What then shall we
say to thec thing? If God is for us who
is against us?" for his text.
Brother Scwell referred to the previous
chapter quoting "There is therefore now
no condemnation to them that arc in Christ
Jcsu. For the law of the Spirit of Life
in Chril Jesus made me free from the
law of sin and death" In commenting on
these quotation the spejker staled "Those
who in reality have accepted our Lord are
living their lives under spiritual influences
for (Itomans H:rl 'They that are after the
flesh mind the things of the flesh; but
they that are after the Spirit the things of
the Spirit." In his opening remarks the
speaker also quoted from Romans 0:9
"but if any man hath not the spirit of God
ho i none of His."
"Those who may bo described a the
children of God arc 'heir of God and
joint-heir with Christ'; if so be th.it we
suffer with Him that wo may alo be glori-
fied with Him" said the speaker.
Continuing his remarks Brother Sewell
spoke in part as follows "The Holy Spirit
bring tu tit ibis soul-stirring message:
'That then shall wc say to the -$?'
What shall wo common ordinary men and
women who have been redeemed of the
shed blood of Christ wo people who may
say 'If God i for us then who is against
u?' say to these wonderful and glorious
facts? All individuals who are described
in the chapter just rc.ul may say that God
i for him. Ho looks upon us a the
fruit of the sacrifice of Hi Hoi) Son
Inpite of the fact that we are jut com
mon men and women who occupy such a
small place on this earth who seem o ob
score in the midst of the I niere we mil)
look to a Coil who is so great that He
i ublc to see everyone of us and low us
all. I cannot imagine nor fathom such
wisdom and if I could then m God would
power of God Satan's forces stand help-
less while the followers after the Lord
walk through the pearly gates into ever-
lasting rest.
"If this morning you arc not a child of
God If you cannot enjoy the privileges
offered to tboso who are the most Impor-
tant thing for you to do is to find the way
to salvation. If you do not know tho way
to salvation then go to some one who can
guide you and be taught.
"If you aro a sinner and you do
know the way to salvation then tho most
important thing and the greatest thing
which you can do is to accept the promises
of God and obey Him this morning."
