Scout Troop 385. which is still active in First
Methodist Church in Mineola.

.JACOB WASHINGTON BOGAN (Mr. Wash)
came to Wood County in the early 1880's. He was born
in Cedar Bluff, Cherokee County, Alabama 9 May
1858, son of Henry Shadrack and Amanda Hoss Bogan.
After a siege of typhoid fever, he followed his doc-
tor's advice to go West and he came as far as his supplyof money would take him, which happened to be
Mineola. Texas. Mineola was ten years old, a village of
muddy streets and board walks.
On 29 ,June 1884. ,Jacob W. Bogan married Mattie
,J. Callaway. daughter of James A. Callaway. Three
children were born to this union, Augustus Tolbert,
Mabrv V., and Charlie Fay.
Wash Bogan farmed near Mineola until the age of
eighty-five. He worked as a clerk in ,James A.
Callawav's store, also Lorenzo Callawav's store and I.
G. Bromberg's Hardware and Dry Good Store. He
served as city commissioner, and as alderman, and was
a steward in the Methodist Church.
Mattie ,J. Bogan died 19 June 1891, and Wash
Bogan married Mary Lucinda Tatum 21 December
1892. Three children were born to this marriage.
Patrick Henry. married Ethel Annie Reed, Thomas
Edward. married (1) Bertie Chambers, (2) Ruth
Pitkin; and a daughter, Clara, who married Doctor
Elmer Philmore Bunn.
Patrick H. Bogan served with the United States
Navy in World War I. Thomas Edward Bogan was in
the 90th Division in World War I. During World War II,
he served with the Merchant Marines. Two ships sank
under him, and he was rescued off Cape Hatteras after
being on a raft four days.~-. "
