The Lane family can be traced through
their census listings: 1850 Monroe County,
Kentucky, 1860 Reynolds, County, Missouri,
1870 Iron County, Missouri, 1880 Bosque
County, Texas, 1900 Bosque County, Texas.
Documents show John R. Lane as a member
of a local military unit in Missouri during the
Civil War. He brought his family to Bosque
County, Texas, during the 1870's and in the
census lists his occupation as a farmer but,
his neighbors remember his abilities as a
carpenter. John and his three sons completed
the original church building in Hollis Prairie
about 1880. The church and later the commu-
nity were named Lane's Chapel in their
honor. John was buried in the Lane's Chapel
Cemetery upon his death 22 June 1906 and
his wife, Algemira, beside him 30 May 1907.
