Ruth J. Arnold and three sons: Gary, Gordon, Gordon Jr.
employees, Andrew L. "Shorty" Crawford
and V.D. "Bob" Barnes. After five years,
Ruth had managed to reduce the need for her
active daily participation in the businesses to
a point where she could return to her chosen
profession: teaching elementary school. In
1966, through the encouragement of Kent
Appleby, Ruth Arnold began a long second
career in the classroom, this time in her
hometown.
In 1968, Gary Arnold married Becky Elaine
Phillips, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.W.
Phillips of Iredell. Janet Arnold was born to
this union in 1970. From 1969 to 1971, Gary
served as an aircraft fireman with the U.S.
Army at Fort Rucker, Alabama. Following his
military duty, Gary began residence on the
Johle farm near Womack where he began a
farming career.
Gordon Arnold attended Baylor University
where he earned a bachelor and masters
degree in business administration. From 1967
to 1971, he served as a naval officer with the
U.S. Navy stationed first aboard ship at
Little Creek, Virginia and later ashore in
Keflavik, Iceland. In 1971, Gordon married
Julia Anne Backlund from Torrance, Califor-
128nia. After two years of employment in
Washington, D.C., they returned to Dallas
where he was employed with Republic Bank
Dallas. Kristina Arnold was born to this
couple in 1976. She was followed by her sister,
Jennifer Rose Arnold in 1979.
George Arnold, Jr. married Darlene Meyer,
second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow
Meyer of Clifton, in 1978. They made their
home briefly in Killeen where he worked with
her father in the telephone construction
business. Later, the couple returned to
Clifton where he opened an automobile
dealership in the building that had been
constructed by his father. Darlene opened
her own business in hair styling and cosmet-
ics. A daughter, Breana, was born in 1980 and
a son, George Beggs Arnold III in 1984.

Andrew Jackson Arnold (1853-1919)
married Luwizer Matilda Jeffcoat (1858-
1934) in Clifton, Texas. To this union were
born seven children; Cassie Berry (1876-
1978) had eight children, Clara Mae Harper
had nine children, Eddie (1882) had seven
children, Lillie Toten (1884-) had nine
children, Hessie (1891), Addie Hulme (1893-
had three children: Bea Outlaw of Clifton,
Hazel Bryan and Otis; Solom Lee (1900)
married Lonie Bush. (They had four chil-
dren: Clara Mae Judah, Edgar Lee, Marie
Wollum and Freddie.) He then married
Fannie Lee Journey; they had two sons:
Solom Lee, Jr. and Richard Lee.
Clara Mae Arnold was married in 1900 to
Charlie Larkin Harper (1883-1924). They
had nine children: Felix married Ophelia
Hawkins; they had nine children: Adda Mae,
Jimmie married Willie Belle Wright of
Bosque County, second wife was Mildred
Parnell (two daughters), his last wife's name
was Joyce; Frances Barbara married John
Crambler; Margaret in Clifton, Texas
married Arthur Augustus "Jack" Bridger.
They had one child, Loue Clara (1933-),
Clifton; Vera Beatrice married Roy Wright of
Bosque Co. They had two daughters, Dolly
McClintock, and Patsy Lain Granvold, Vera
then married Lloyd Puckett of Fort Worth.
They had two children: Jack Weldon and
Nelda Givins; Ida Irene Pierce had one child,
Margaret Gail Wood; Minnie Lorene (7-24-
16); Robert (2-21-19).
After Clara Mae and Charlie Harper were
married in Texas they went to Arkansas to
live; it was there that he was killed. Shortly
after his death two of Mrs. Harper's brothers
(Lee and Eddie Arnold) brought her and her
children to Clifton so they could care for
them. It was while she was living in Clifton
that her daughter Margaret met and married
Arthur Augustus "Jack" Bridger son of
George Washington Bridger (1854-1941) and
Lou Teel Bridger (1861-1920). To this union
was born one child, Loue Clara. She graduat-
ed from Clifton High School in 1950. She now
resides in Burleson, Texas with her husband,
H. Eugene Surginer son of T.E. and Onita
Miller Surginer of Whitney, Texas, and with
her son Mickie Dwaine. Her daughter, T.
Lorraine married Judge J.L. Phinney, II of
Burleson. After "Jack's" death, Margaret
married Odie Tarver of Burleson.

The Arrington family began in England,
near Cambridge, England. However, I will
start this record with John Arrington, born
in Georgia, and moved to Tennessee in his
youth. Married to Jennie (a Tennessee girl),
they had six sons and one daughter. John and
Jennie lived in Tennessee until their deaths.
John died at 96 and is buried in the Arrington
Cemetery near Waverly, Tennessee.
One of their sons, James E., was my great
great grandfather. Jim was born in 1815, in
Tennessee, and married Martha Derenda
Craft (who was part Dutch). They had nine
