Conservation District. He is a charter mem-
ber of the Texas Industrial Commission. He
has served on the Board of Directors for
Heart of Texas Boy Scouts of America, and
on the Board of Heart of Texas Council of
Governments. He is listed in Who's Who in
the Southwest. He is, also, President of the
Board of Trustees of the Goodall-Witcher
Hospital Foundation.
At the present time, Hulen and Martha
Louise live southeast of Clifton on a farm
where they both keep busy enjoying the life
style of country folk as well as participating
in a variety of civic and community enter-
prises.
Hulen has devoted his life to unselfish
service to his fellow man, but he himself
regrets that he has not done more.

AARS, GENEof Bosque Memorial Museum and has served
on the Clifton City Council. He is a member
of the Clifton Chamber of Commerce, the
Clifton Lions Club, and is a charter member
of the Bosque County Conservatory of Fine
Arts.
Gene's special interests are the fine arts,
especially music. He is a member of the
American Guild of Organists, and is proud to
own a historic American pipe organ. He also
worked closely with the rebuilding of the pipe
organ in Trinity Lutheran Church and in the
restoration of the organ in the Rock Church,
Cranfills Gap.
In 1981 Gene Aars married Barbara Heid
Kuisel. Barbara is the daughter of Ralph and
Nadine (Matson) Heid. Her maternal grand-
parents are Fred and Effie (Colwick) Matson.
Barbara was born in Clifton in 1946. She grew
up in Michigan, the oldest in a family of
eleven children. Her family often vacationed
in Clifton, visiting family and friends. Bar-
bara and her sons, Hal (1965) and Kevin,
(1968), became residents of Clifton in 1975.
Barbara is employed as business office
manager for Goodall-Witcher Hospital Foun-and Kevin enjoy a legacy of sentiment and
tradition passed on to them by loving ances-
tors with deep roots in Bosque County.

Gene and Barbara Aars, Kevin and Hal Kuisel
Gene Aars, son of Hulen and Velma
(Manske) Aars, was born in 1937. Gene
attended Clifton schools, graduating in 1955.
He attended the University of Texas, the
University of Colorado, and graduated from
Baylor University in 1960. Graduate studies
included Northwestern University and
Southern Methodist University.
Gene began his business career as a buyer
for Titche-Goettinger Department Stores of
Dallas. After two years he joined Fort Worth
National Bank, spending eight years in
advertising and public relations. Gene left a
position of vice president in 1970 to become
a partner in the firm of Aars & Nelson
Insurance Agency in Clifton.
Gene has a strong interest in his commu-
nity. He is a member of Trinity Lutheran
Church and has served on the church council
and numerous committees. He is a directordation. She is a member of the National
Association of Hospital Admitting Managers.
Barbara has also served as secretary and
president of the Bosque County Chapter of
the American Heart Association and as a
director of the Central Texas Chapter of the
American Red Cross. She is a member of
Trinity Lutheran Church and has served on
the church council, audit committee and
education board.
Gene, Barbara and their sons reside in
Clifton. Their home was previously owned by
Mr. and Mrs. W.B. (Hildegarde Manske)
Oswald. Mrs. Oswald was a favorite aunt of
Gene's. The Aars take pride in their home
and enjoy entertaining family and friends.
Favorite activities of the family are travel-
ing and outdoor activities. They actively
support each other in church, school and
community activities. Gene, Barbara, HalC. Pernell Aars was born in the Norse
community in 1913 to Charles and Alma Hoel
Aars. He attended Meridian Creek and Norse
schools. He was graduated from Clifton
Academy in 1930, from Clifton College in
1932, and he attended Texas Tech at
Lubbock.
In 1939 Pernell and Rosalie Rueter were
married in Zion Evangelical Church at Wo-
mack.
Rosalie was born in 1916 to Otto and Ottilie
Knust Rueter in the Womack area. She
attended Center Hill, Cayote, and Clifton
schools. She graduated from Clifton High
School in 1933, from Clifton College in 1935,
and received a BA Degree from Baylor
University in 1938. She taught school in
DeLeon one year.
Their sons were born in Goodall-Witcher
Hospital. Rallin, born in 1941, married
Barbara Zuehlke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
William Zuehlke, in 1964. Charley, born in
1959, married Lauri Pitts, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. James Pitts, in 1983.
For a time Pernell worked at Sormrude's
Grocery. He began farming in 1933, and in
1936 purchased the John Colwick farm,
where he and Rosalie have lived since their
marriage. Farming and ranching has been
their main occupation. When electricity came
to the Norse area, he wired many houses, and
he also did wiring for Clifton Lumber Com-
pany. He was the Texaco consignee in Clifton
for one year. He was the steam engine
operator for the Norse Thresher Company a
number of years. He has served as trustee of
the Norse and Clifton school districts and as
a Bosque County school trustee. He has
participated in many community and farm
activities. He was a committee member of the
Bosque County Farmer's Home Administra-
