made to all parts of the United States. Some "high-
classed" eggs sell for $15 and $20 per dozen. In some
cases individual eggs sell for several dollars.
All things considered, Denton County is one of the
prosperous counties of Texas. It practices an attractive
program of diversified economic activities. As has been
previously shown, this is due more to the variety in soil
composition than to the transitional location in climate.
The central physiographic division makes a greater con-
tribution toward a program of economic diversification
than possibly either of the other two divisions, but there
is room for expansion, however, along the various lines
of industry. With reference to railroad transportation
facilities for the hauling out of these products, no part
of the county is far removed from such service.
TRANSPORTATION
Denton County is served by four different railroad
lines: the Texas and Pacific; the Missouri, Kansas, and
Texas; the Santa Fe; the St. Louis and San Francisco.
There is at present some talk of the mergence of the
M. K. & T. and the St. Louis and San Francisco. The
combined trackage of these four lines is ninety-nine
miles. The method in which the county secured the
railroads is a typical example of railroad construction
fifty or sixty years ago, in that a tremendous amount of
land was paid for each mile laid. For the 89.1 miles
