the county. The following short record shows a strong
deviation from the average. The yearly rainfall ranged
from 49.93 inches in 1920 to 19.62 in 1924. Since
then each year has approached the average fairly well
excepting 1934, when the average rainfall for the coun-
ty was 22.36 inches. In July, 1934, there was only
.05 inches of rain. During July, 1935, the county had
3.08 inches. As an annual average, the county has 180
clear days, 77 cloudy days, 109 partly cloudy days and
rainfall for 95 days. Occasionally a fall frost does in-
jury to peanuts and sweet potatoes, and there have
been spring seasons when the oats, fruit, and wheat
crops have suffered from frost. The months of great-
est wind intensity are February, March, April, and
June. In the central part of Denton County, in the
Cross Timbers section, there is considerable erosion
damage due to wind.
Continuing the economic story of the county, besides
wheat cultivation, mesothermal plants, as cotton and
corn, receive a considerable share of the farmer's atten-
tion. The fact that for several years cotton contracts
have changed somewhat the acreage in cotton in the
county, gives us a new cotton pattern for 1935. During
the last few years of our national depression President
Roosevelt placed restrictions on cotton acreage in
the South. The county agricultural agent has helped
in a plan to re-block Denton County into fewer and
