HISTORICAL GEOGRAPHY
the creek, and the "Ranger Trail" passed over Big
Elm at the Fish Trap Crossing. At this location the
creek flows over a solid rock bottom and this was an
ideal condition for an all-year trail route. These two
trails were used constantly by Indians, rangers, and
pioneers.
Another famous trail which exerted much influence
on life in, the Denton territory was the Butterfield
Trail, the first transcontinental mail route established
by our government. The Butterfield Trail passed
