-Stated; that Vice Admiral Faravelli
has sent a message to the govern-
ment that the bombardment of the
hay batteries at Tripoli commenced
at 3 o’clock yesterday, and continued
until sunset. The ^batteries resiled to
the Italian battleships’ fire without
effect. Only the lighthouse .’ and one
of the batteries were destroyed, and:
the greatest care, was taken by the
Italian gunners to avbid damaging
the buildings of the town. .f • •' ,

Saturday returned to work todqy.
^Railroad officials say still others will
return. Despite the denial of the
strikers there are about eight hun-
dred men at work in the shops at
this time. The men are not molested
as they pass through the gates. Five
hundred policemen are still guarding
the railroad property.

I Quiet Restored at Denison.
Denison, Texas, Oct. 4.—Quiet was
restored early today following last
night’s rioting-which resulted in, the
arrest of a strike sympathizer, causr
ing a mob to gather. The mob was
finally dispersed by the man being re-
leased. The trouble was confined, to
a demonstration, against forty Katy
strike-breakers and had no connection'

Houston, Texas, Oct. 4.—Last night
passed with no ^further serious out-
breaks in the yards of the Harriman
lines here. The inquest into the
d^ath of Guard J. J. Pipes, who was
killed Monday night, was resumed
this morning. Sheriff Anderson testi-
fied that nothing done by ’ the
company guards, %while <^he railroad
officials think the.strikers and their
sympathizers responsible for the
shooting. Most of the guards who
were brought here from East Texas
have returned to their homes. When
the shops opened this morning none
of the old men were seem to enter
the yards. Operations were resumed,
however, with the men the company
has kept within the enclosure under
guard. •

Bartlettsville, Okla., Oct. 4.—The
Missouri, Kansas & Texas passenger
train from Kansas City to Oklahoma
was held up - by three masked men
this morning near Okosa, ten miles
south of here. The robbers rifled the
mail and baggage cai*s, but it is be-
lieved they got very little of value.
They did not enter the passenger

Austin, Pa., Oct.' 4.—In a drizzling
rain Governor Tener started on an
inspection tour of the flood destroyed
district of Austin today. He will in-
spect the dam which burst Saturday,
bringing death and destruction. It is
believed the governor-’s visit is the
preliminary of an investigation to try
and fix the responsibility for the
calamity.

in today’s Houston Post, and will be
of interest to Palestine people:
A circular was issued yesterday
from the office of Henry Martin, gen-
eral manager of the International and
Great Northern, announcing the ap-
pointment of the firm of Wilson &
Dabney( as general attorneys of the
^International and Great Northern
Railway Company. This is. a Hous-
ton firm and An- the past has served
as local attorneys of the company. J.
M. King has been general attorney In
the past and it is. understood that he
will either become local attorney at
Houston or sever his connection with
►the company entirely. ^The new!gen-
eral .attorneys will announce in op
few days who will be the local attor-
neys of the road at the various places
where an attorney’s office is main-
tained. The new appointment be-
comes effective at once.
Major Durham Not Guilty.
Hillsboro, Texas, Oct. Ji—-By in-
struction of the court a verdict of not
guilty was this afternoon rendered in
favor of Major T. E. Durham, charged
with second degree murder for the
death of’ a convict, W. E. Atherton,
at a Hill county convict farm in 1905.
The instructions followed Durham's
testimony in his own behalf.
