Ladies Aid society, Friday. 77
T. A. Porter, recently of Ban
Marcos, has purchased the in-
terest of Mrs. W. T. Campbell in
the Oliver Wholesale Grocery
Co., and becomes the head and
general manager of the business.
Mr. Porter is a practical whole-
sale groceryman and knows how
to conduct such a business.
There will be no change in the
style of the firm, and the other
stock holders will retain the re-
spective positions which they
held during the past year. Mr.
Porter will move his family here
in a short time, and they will be-
come permanent citizens.

' JEWELERS’ GOLDEN YEAR.
Never in the, history of the jewel-
ry trade has the fall season opened
so auspieionsly as lias the present
one. It is such times as these, when
money, is plentiful, that most peo-
ple think of buying jewelry, precious
stones, watches; silverware and sim-
ilar articles, and the bulk of sales
in this trade this year will create a
new record. Learning from expe-
riences of the past, manufacturers
are now working to their fullest ca-
pacity, and the retail jewelers are
buying earlier than ever before.
The fall season has already been
most active, and from now to the
holidays there is every reason to be-
lieve that the demand for wares in
the jewelry and kindred trades will
far exceed the. supply.—Jewelers’
Circular Weekly.

“The great requisite for play-

marked Mr. Everwise, “is nerve.”
“Yes,” answered young Miss
Torkins, “it must take a great
deal of nerve to enable a man to
•come home so often and tell his
folks that still further economy
will be necessarv.”
