showing the love
It was a good day for football,
coaches and players when mem-
bers of the Mineola High School
Football Team visited Larry Lew-
is at Wood Memorial Nursing
Home Thursday.
Athletic Director Joe Drennon
and four members of the Mineola
High School Football made a vis-
it to Lewis, a former MHS coach.
Lewis celebrated his 81st birth-
day on March 9 and team mem-
bers Michael Drennon, Chantz
Perkins, Oliver El Hallaoui and
Riley Anderson as well as the
coach saw that he got a football
autographed by this year's team
that advanced to the state semi-
finals. He was also presented
with a medal.
Lewis came to Mineola High
School as a coach in 1979 and
served as principal here from
1981 to 1992. The former coach
championed his students as he
did what he could to make their
lives better. He also served as a
Mineola City Councilman.
Drennon said, "I know what
a coach does to impact the lives
of young people and I can only
imagine the number of young
people that Coach Lewis im-
pacted over his career. So in ap-
preciation for what he has done
and the fact that I know he loves
Mineola football - some com-
munity members, our team and
staff would like to thank him for
being a great supporter."
