Stock owners are demanding of the
forthcoming legislature that it pass < a-
more liberal scalp law one which will
have some effect in destroying tho wild
beasts that are now devouring sheep and
calves In startling numbers
A larger number ot lighthogs were
received at the Fort Worth stock yards
last week than any preceding week
since the paokery began operations
Farmers seem to be determined to mar-
ket every hog that oan be converted
into cash no matter whether in condi-

The DeLeon Tex Free Press in

Correspondence of the Gazette
Duffan Tex Dec 22 The largest
hog slaughtered here this winter weighed
C25 pounds not and was the property of
Mr JJ Ramage He made more than
twentyfive gallons of lard out of tho one
hog Merchants here say they never
knew such a demand for large lard
stands and there never were so many
large fat hogs here before A few years
ago our bogs ran at large and were of
the class known as razorbaoks
Then we bought most of our baoon from
Kansas and Missouri but now our hogs
are large fine and healthy and we want
no bacon from Kansas or Missouri This
is the result of keeping them up in pens
which we have to do In obedience to the
stock law wo adopted more than two
years ago
