eneloied their track with a substantial

for tbe horde of negroes who are con-

a record uulike that of Maud S but it

latives brought her to Dallas where she
expects to live permanently some of the
freedmen say eternally because they be-
lieve that under a special providential
dispensation she has been granted an
eternal residence on earth She gives
graphic aud thrilling accounts of her re-
movals from Virginia to Tennessee
thence to Texas and of the wild coun-
tries through which she traveled re-
membering well trifling details
After telling all this she arose slowly
holding to the back of her chair for sup-
port and moved like a wriukled Bpirit to
a low old trunk covered with rawhide
and broadheaded brass tacks The
chest is no tender young thing Itself but
8he 6iiys she bought it after she was mar-
ried a second time She opened the iron
latch the trunk not having auythiug as
modern as a lock on it and raised the
lid The clothing was carefully put
aside until she unearthed a tin box from
which she drew a piece of blue paper
All but one small fold of this had been
whipped off by ago and this contained
an unfinished sentence which she says
refers to her age It says Borne July
the 12th 1745 The remainder can-
not be read except the word Norfolk
at the bottom of the scrap This Aunt
July said was the paper dat my tnassa
gin to Mr Curtis when he fus hired me
out in terbacker He was owiuCol

Whether she is as old as she says or
not she is a wonderful old uecress and
has a remarkable story She is there to

OarXow Courthouse
The Board of Trade people have
spoken and have a committee who wil
see the county commissioners and do
everything possible to have a half million
dollar courthouse built instead of aS200
000 as provided for by tho commission-
ers at their recent session The Dallas
bar will couveue tomorrow and concen-
trate the legal talent of Dallas on the
courthouse question There is some
question as to the effect of thus focaliz
iug the legul lights of the city and turn-
ing same upon the commissioners
Some say Doit some say No
The latter are oi the opinion that the
commissioners may not be enough in-
clined to please Dallas lawyers to build a
courthouse like that in Denver for
which the bar is expected to contend
