FINANCIAL INFORMATION
GENERAL STATEMENT AND POLICIES
It is understood that the costs of higher education represent a significant financial outlay
for the student or for his/her family. Meeting these costs calls for careful financial planning
by the student and his/her family. At McMurry University, direct payments from students
account for only about sixty percent of the University's annual budgeted income. The bal-
ance of income required to meet all expenses is derived from gifts and grants from churches,
individuals, families, corporations, and philanthropic foundations. Gifts which have been
accumulated in the University's endowment funds also yield income for operating pur-
poses. To this extent, it can be said truthfully that every student at McMurry University is
the recipient of a scholarship equal to about two-fifths of the costs of the educational bene-
fits received. The Student Affairs Fee is charged to assist in meeting the expense of student
affairs. Included in these services are support of intramural and intercollegiate athletic ac-
tivities, War Whoop, The Galleon, campus security, health service, placement service, iden-
tification card, and other costs. By careful planning, the University strives to keep direct
costs to students as low as possible within an overall policy of responsible management and
stewardship of the University resources.
The Board of Trustees establishes the policy for the financial management of McMurry
University. The Business Office is charged with the responsibility of application and en-
forcement of the policies concerning student accounts due the University.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
McMurry does not admit students on the basis of their ability to pay. Rather, it searches
for the most qualified and accomplished students it can find. After admission, the Univer-
sity Financial Aid Office works with students and parents to make a McMurry education
possible. This assistance comes from a variety of sources, including federal, state, private,
and institutional (provided by McMurry University) sources. General regulations for par-
ticipation in any of these forms of financial assistance are as follows:
1. Students must be enrolled half-time to be eligible to process loans. Half-time en-
rollment means a minimum course load of 6 credit hours per semester. In some in-
stances a student may qualify for a Pell Grant with less than half-time enrollment.
2. Institutional scholarships (except the Part Time Honors Scholarship) are available
only for the fall and spring semesters to students enrolled in a minimum of 12 hours
per semester. Student teachers or students who do not have 12 credit hours re-
maining to complete their degree in their final semester will have their institutional
scholarships pro-rated.
3. At least a 2.0 grade point average is required for all scholarships.
4. A student may receive only one tuition or academic institutional scholarship. If he
qualifies for two, he may receive the scholarship which has the larger dollar value.
5. To receive financial aid, students must meet the minimum requirements for contin-
ued enrollment as listed in the catalog and complete 75% of all work attempted.
6. All awards are made only upon proper application each academic year. If there is
similar financial need and if funds are available, students may expect financial as-
sistance to be renewed upon application, if they remain in good academic and per-35
