you, Mr.Editor, that some one touted
off one of Mr. lien I .attic's bee
gums Saturday night a week ago.
The bees returned in 10 days, but
the honey and guui have not come
back as yet. I wish John, the Sheriff,
could catch up with this gen-

tug, consisting of eaeays declama-

Through the kindness of Mr. N. 0.

age of using his globe, which he can
rest assured is highly apprecia-

Silica the cistern has been washed
out rain ia anxiously desired. Two
well buckets, five dippers, a cup or
two, some decayed hats, and other
things in proportion, were rescued
from its depths, and yet the small
boys say they didn't drop nothing in !
How artlessly they can tell the
truth!
Quite an improvement was made
by Mr. Clay and some of his pupils
upon the windows of his room,
being long deprived of soap and
water their ap|>earanoe was not as
bright as was desired.
Visitors are always welcome to
come any time; come any day.
A movement was made lost Satur-

use of the school, and to be u nu-
cleus around which to accumulate a
library.
There has not been enough moDey
subscribed. However, it is likely
that the subscription will bo com-
pleted next Saturday. This is a
laudable enterprise, and one to which
every one should contribute his
mite.

On Tuesday night of last week some-
one stole a horse belonging to Carrie
Rhea, from where lie wax hitched at Live
Oak church. Officers Caudle and Loug
searched diligently for the thief but
could not find him. Afterward the horse
came to Mr. Rose’s lot and was returned
to Rhea. Tbe next day, while Rhea was
in Ills cotton patch, the thief came to him
and said, “Now you've got your damned
old horae, and If you don't leave here I’ll
kill yon. I did not take the horse for the
purpose of stealing him, but to get to kill
you." The uiau was armed. Rhea,
who kuows nearly everybody In the
country, was not acquainted with this
man. Officer Laffurty afterward arrested
the man, and the trial took place at Dub-
lin. Rhea recognized the man who had
approached him in the cotton field, and
identified him, but other witnesses swore
that be was at a point miles distant at
the hour Rhea claims that be was ap-
proached lu Ihe field, consequently the
accused was acquitted. There Is no
belter family ia the county than the
Rheas, and young Carrie is especially
well-liked and popular, uud there ia quite
a mystery surrounding this affair.

The necessaries of life are now wonder-
fully cheap, and farmers ought not to
grumble at Ihe prices they get for their
cotton. They can now buy more for a
dollar thau at any time In the history of
the country since I860. Speculation has
kepi beef »o high that people had to re,
sort to other meats, hence the market has
become over-stocked, and prices have
greatly declined. Beef ia now gelling
cheap enough to eat, with fair promises
of a still greater decline. Cattle have
been entirely too high. Whenever prices
go up there are thousands of people whose
income will not permit them to use beef
as an article of diet.
