Community Calendar and
Announcement Policy
The Community Calendar and
Announcement sections are for non-profit
organizations such as churches, schools,
and benefits helping families or certain
groups. The benefit must run what it
is and where the money is going. No
prices will be allowed in the placement.
For example, no ticket price, no door
price or no prize price. "Donations will be
accepted" is acceptable language, but no
amount is allowed. Items in question will
be handled on a case-by-case basis and
placement or non-placement will be at the
discretion of the editor and the publisher.
The placer always has the opportunity to
purchase an advertisement in the paper
to run the full announcement. If he or she

The Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital
Diabetes Outreach is presenting "Let's
Count Carbs" by Shelley Davis, RN, BSN,
Diabetes Educator on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at
2 p.m. on the E.R. Classroom. Come and
learn about portion control. Everyone is
welcome.
Telling Our Stories
The County-City Library is having another
Telling Our Stories workshop on Tuesday,
Oct. 9, 16, and 23 from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m.
Linda Linn will be back to present ideas
on how to write down your stories. The
workshops are free and for all ages. You do
not have to sign up. Hope to see you there!

Roscoe Collegiate Open House
The Roscoe Collegiate Open House will
be held in the Roscoe ISD Cafetorium
on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012 from 6-8 p.m.
Following an assembly and program in the
cafetorium, student-led tours of the new
facility will be provided. Refreshments will
be served at this time as well. All commu-
nity and area patrons interested in viewing
the new facilities are welcome and encour-
aged to attend.
Wednesday, Oct. 10
TSTC Team Challenge Cook-Off
Texas State Technical College will host
a team challenge cook-off on Wednesday,
Oct. 10, 2012, at the at TSTC Lake Lot.
Cooking begins at noon and judging begins
at 5 p.m. The cook-off is open to all TSTC
West Texas students and employees. Team
members must consist of three students
and one employee.
Adult Literacy/ESL
The Adult Literacy/ESL class will meet
at the County-City Library on Wednesday,
Oct. 10, at 10:00 a.m. Instructors will help
you learn to read, improve your reading
skills, improve your English skills or help
you read to your children. Call 235-4978

Thursday, Oct. 11
Story Hour
Story Hour at the County-City Library for
parents and their children will be Thursday,
Oct. 11, at 10:45 a.m. Library Staff will lead
the parents and children in stories and

Friday, Oct. 12
Adopt-a-Mustang Recognition
All adoptees are to meet the Mustang
Moms by the scoreboard at the north end
of Mustang Bowl at 7 p.m. sharp. Adoptees
will line the stairwell going down into the
bowl to form a spirit line. Once all players
have gone through the spirit line, children
are to be picked up from the scoreboard
and return to their seats to cheer on the
Mustangs.
FFA Hamburger Supper
Friday, Oct. 12, will be Sweetwater
FFA's annual hamburger supper before
the Sweetwater vs. Snyder varsity foot-
ball game from 4:30-7 p.m. The meal
will include a hamburger, baked beans,
potato salad, Mustang cake and a choice
of water, iced tea or coffee. Tickets are
now on sale and can be purchased from
any Sweetwater FFA member, or by call-
ing Cory Rains at (325) 235-7827 or Katy
Harkey at (325) 235-7844. All proceeds
benefit the Sweetwater FFA Chapter.
Sunday, Oct. 14
Southern Plainsmen
Quartet Concert
The Southern Plainsmen Quartet will be
in concert at Rhema Valley on Sunday, Oct.
14 at 10:30 a.m. The Southern Plainsmen
have been in existence since 1978. Over the
years, they have traveled throughout the
U.S. and have received numerous awards.
Their focus is to encourage the body of
Christ, exhorting believers to love beyond
denominational walls. The concert is free
to the public. Rhema Valley is located at
3304 E. Broadway. For further informa-

Spaghetti Supper
Mustang Moms will be holding a spa-
ghetti supper from 4:30-7 p.m. on Friday,
Oct. 19, in the Sweetwater High School
Cafeteria before the Sweetwater vs.
Midland Greenwood game. The plate will
include spaghetti, bread, salad, corn, des-
sert, tea and water.
Saturday, Oct. 20
West Texas Wind Festival
The West Texas Wind Festival will be
held Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012. The event
continues to grow each year. Hours of the
event are 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. The event
will have a kids area (bounce houses), food
and craft vendors, mud bog and live music.
The headliner this year is Country Music
Legend Gene Watson and Band, along
with other bands and fireworks. Food and
craft vendor applications may be picked
up at Roscoe City Hall (325-766-3871) or
call Kelly Etheredge at 325-725-0756. The
concert is free to the general public.
Clothes Closet
The clothes closet at First United
Methodist Church will be open from
9-11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20. Clothes
are available to anyone in need. Enter
through the north door at 4th Street and
Cedar.
BBQing in the Wind Cook Off
The 3rd annual steak cook off will be
held Saturday, Oct. 20 in Roscoe, Texas.
First place steak prize is sponsored by
Fuller Food of Colorado City. Cooking
fuel can consist of wood, gas or charcoal.
The cook off will be held during the West
Texas Wind Festival. Events include: 16
oz ribeye steak, pork spare ribs, chicken
- half of a chicken. Meat inspection
begins at 8 a.m. Cooks meeting will be
held at 10 a.m. Turn in times are 3 p.m.
for chicken, 4 p.m. for ribeye steak, and
5 p.m. for ribs. Dry camper spaces only.
No hookups. Setup starts Friday, Oct. 19
at 6 p.m. No electricity per cook site. A
public electricity and water station will
be provided. One camper, one vehicle,
up to 12’ by 12’ cover, up to two pits per
cooking area. Must enter all three events
to enter the steak category. All proceeds
will go to the Roscoe Fire Department.

Class Garage Sale
The Highland Sophomore class will
be having a garage sale beginning at
8 a.m. on Saturday. Oct. 20, at the
Roscoe Community Center. Donations
are greatly appreciated. For more infor-
