CONFIRMATION RECEPTION
Mr and Mrs H Cohen received
their iriends last Sunday afternoon
and evening in honor of the confirma-
tion oi their daughter Rachel Music
and singing were indulged in extensive-
ly and ice cream cake and wine served
as the guests came and went Mr and
Mis Cohen proved to be exceptionally
fine entertaineis

Owing to the excessive heat the of-
ficers of the Society deemed it best to
postpone the quarterly meeting which
should have been held in July until
September
Preparations for the September
meeting are now under way and from
indications will be a very interesting
one

The regular monthly meeting of the
society will be held next Sunday July
18th at 3 oclock sharp at the rooms
ot the Jewish Literary Society Mason
building All members are urged to at-
tend In addition to the election of of-
ficers the secretary will render a full
report and detailed account of what
the Society has accomplished within

BURNS PROVE FATAL
From burns received on the after-
noon of the 11th inst caused by step
ping on a match Mrs Sol Nussbaum
who was Miss Thereso Meyer died
at Groesbeeck Mrs Nussbaum was
born thirtysix years ago in New Or-
leans and was married about sixteen
years ago to Solomon Nussbaum in
Galveston She is survived by her
husband and five children as follows
Ray 14 Roy 12 Bernice 8 Joe and
Milton the latter who is a few months
old also Emil Meyer a brother who
resides here and a brother each in
Galveston and New Orleans The bur-
ial took place at Jewish cemetery
in Mexia Tuesday afternoon at H
oclock
LAWN PARTY
Mr and Mrs O M Lipper enter-
tained with a lawn party the past
week for their sister Miss Celina
Meyer at their residence 107 Chartres
street The green was studded with
Japanese lanterns and the parlor and
dining room cleared for dancing In
addition games and guessing contests
were enjoyed for success in which
prizes were offered Punch was served
during the evening and cream and
cakes as a finale Those present were
