Quarterback Vaclavik then went

received' a 15 yard penalty for
holding and after penalty dis-
tance had been stepped off, found
themselves needing 24 yards for
a first down.
Vaclavik went to the air again,

the 50 as the first quarter ended.
To open the second quarter,
the Comanches drove for their
final touchdown of the game. Iri
seven plays the ball had ad-
vanced to the Thorndale ohe foot
line.
Vaclavik capped the drive as
he kept the ball on a quarterback
sneak and rammed across for the
tally
Vaclavik's pass to Berger fell
incomplete for the PTA’s and
Shiner led 12 to 0
The remainder of the first half
saw neither team able to
move the ball to any great ex-
tent and the half ended with
Thorndale in possession at its own
44 yard line
Thorndale received to open the
second half with Charles Caffey

From this point the Bulldogs

of the game
With Ken Caffey and Westbrook
carrying, the Bulldogs moved the
ball down to the Shiner one yard
stripe in eight plays. Westbrook
then capped the drive as he car-
ried up the middle and into the
end zone for the tally.
Ken Caffey’s run for the PAT’s
failed and Thorndale trailed 12-
6.
Shiner, after taking the ensuing
kickoff, moved to the Thorndale
49 and ran out of downs there.
The Bulldogs took over and
moved for the final score of the
game behind' the running of en
Caffey and Richard Westbrook.
The 51 yard drive took 12 plays
to unfold with Caffey lugging the
ball in from the eight yard line.
Cafley was dropped short of the
goal line on his run for the PAT’s
and the game was tied up 12-12.

only 45 seconds left in the gamt
here Friday night as O. L. Price
upset Lincoln High 30-24 in a
thrilling District 9A championship
game.
Price had to come from be-
hind twice to pull the game oil!
of the fire. The determined Pan-
thers -were led by their ace run-
ner, Anderson, who put 22 points
on the scoreboard himself, for
high honors of the night.
Anderson, a 146-pound junior,
scored touchdowns on plunges of
12, 4, and 2 yards and added four
extra points on two runs.
It was an extra game both
teams agreed to play when they
found themselves tied for the
district championship with iden
tical 5-0-1 records. They had play-
ed to a 6-6 draw in their dis-
trict game earlier in the sea-
son.
The lead changed five times
in the hair-raising battle that
was spiked by long runs, almost
spectacular passes, two blocked
nunts. an attempted field goal,
Three lost fumbles and one pass
'nt creep lien.
It was, as Coach Edward Elder
of Taylor predicted earlier in the
week, “a heaven ol a game.”
Price earned the right to meet
Lockharlt, the winner of District
3A. Lockhart ended its season last
week with a 9-0-1 record. That’s
the identical record with which
Price ended its season.
Coach Eider said the time and
place of the bi-district game
would be decided at a meeting of
officials of the Itwo schools Mon-
day. He said if the game is play-
ed at Taylor it will be a Friday
night battle and if it’s played in
Lockhart it’ll come off Saturday
night.
Both teams showed an impress-
ive amount of hustle, desire and
determinaltion in the title-deciding
battle played before a fair crowd
on Memorial Field.
Price led the statistics, except
in the passing department. The
Panthers of Taylor1 accumulated
224 yards on the ground and 54
in the air for a total of 278, while
the Panthers ol College Station
rolled up 171 yards on the ground
and 121 in the air for a total
278, while the Panthers of Col
lege Station rolled up 171 yards
on the ground and 121 in the air
of 192.
Both passing attacks proved
effective at times. One of Lin-
coln’s was good for 64 yards and
a touchdown.
Price made 18 first downs to
Lincoln’s 14.
The Taylor lads scored first
with 5:15 left in the first quarter,
when Herbert Henderson raced
30 yards around right end on an
end around play. The score was

Fullback Elzie Clark recovered
a Lincoln fumble on his own 30
near the end of the first quarter,
but Price had to put out from
the 40, the ball going over to
Lincoln at midfield after end C.
Stewart returned the ball 19 yards.
It was from this point that
Lincoln staged its first scoring-
drive, going all the way in 13
plays, with Stewart crashing
over from the 4-yard line on an
end around play lor the score.
J. Banks ran around left end
tor the two extra points that
tied it up at 8-8 four minutes
deep in the second period.
Coach Eder's inspired Panth-
ers took the Lincoln kickoff on
their own 40. Quarterback Thom-
as Brockington, fullback Clark,
and halfbacks Anderson and Lee
Washington advanced the ball in
the Lincoln 35, from where
guard James Robinson tried to
punt. He got a bad pass from
center, however, and never got
it off, being tackled at the line
of scrimmage, the ball going over
on downs at the 35.
Fullback R. Clark electrified
the crowd on Lincoln’s finst play
from scrimmage as he made a
spectacular fingertip catch of
quarterback R. Petty’s long pass
on the Price 40 and outran even,
body on the field. The scoring
play covered 65 yards. The TD
plus the two extra points added
up when Petty passed complete
to Clark put Lincoln out front
16-8.
Not to be denied, Price came
right back to score with only 14
seconds left in the first half.
The drive following the Lincoln
kickoff covered 70 yards. Brock-
ington made a 28-yard run and
Washington completed a 20-yard
pass to halfback Joe White to
help set up the score that came
after only seven plays.
It was Anderson who crashed
over from 32 yards out for the
TD. Price sltill trailed 16-14. An-
derson tried to run over what
would have been the two tieing
points, but got stopped short and
Price trailed by two points at
halftime.
Washington fumbled on his own
26 early in (the third period and
end J. Young recovered for Lin-
coln on the 24, but the Panthers
put up a determined goal line
stand, taking over on downs four
plays later after giving up only
one yard.
It was at the 25, then, that
the Panlthers started another
long scoring drive, this one cov-
ering the 75 yards in 18 plays,
the backs grinding out a few
yards at a time.
Again it was Anderson who
blasted over from the 4 yard line.
And Anderson ran around end for
the two extra points to put Price
back into Ithe lead 22-16.
But Lincoln would have none
of that. After taking the Price
kickoff, the Lincoln aggregation
moved 58 yards to score, with
the TD coming on the first play
of the fourth period, Banks blast-
ing ithrough the center of the line
from 4 yards out to knot the game
at 22-22. Petty passed to Clark
lor the extra points, putting Lin-
coln out front 24-22.
Robinson’s punt was blocked
at Ithe Price 40 a short time later,
giving Lincoln possession at the
Price 37. But on second down
the quarterback fumbled the ball,
the pigskin squirting backwards
out of his hands. It was kicked
and bounced around for what
seemed like an eternity in the
scramble before Price's tackle
Gene Ross recovered on the Lin-
coln 24.
The Panlthers were able to move
only a few yards, to the Lincoln
19. On fourth down Robinson tried
a field goal, booting from his own
25, but the effort fell short by
about 10 yards and Lincoln re-
turned to the 7. Lincoln’s passing
attack was largely responsible for
their moving the ball to their
own 40.
It was then that White intercep-
ted Petty’s pass for Price on the
Price 36.
