Grand Jury Indicted the Two Kid-
napers of Whitla Child Today

Cleveland O March 25 A Cleve-
land grand jury today is expected to
leturn indictments for extortion and
blackmail against James H Boyle
and Helen Faulkner identified yester-
day afternoon as the kidnapers of
Billy Whitla Whitlas Sharon friends
are now seeking other motives for
the kidnaping than the money de
mandea It is expected extradition
papers will be secured for the couple
and that they will be sent to Mercer
county the last of the week
Later Mrs Faulkner the woman
identified as one of the kidnapers
will be tried here for blackmail
Boyle will be taken to Sharon Friday
for a preliminary hearing before Jus-
tice J J Gilbert The penalty for
blackmail in Ohio is five years in
prison and a fine of 1000

mail based on a letter written to
Whitla on March 22 the last of a
series the kidnapers wrote demand-
ing the ransom money 9848 of the
ransom money paid the kidnapers
was returned to Whitla today

DIED UNDER TORTURE
Mrs Culbertson Found Yesterday Af-
ternoon Bound and Gagged
Died Early Today

Vincennes Ind March 25 Mrs
Russell Culbertson who was found
late yesterday afternoon bound and
gagged and in an unconscious condi
tionxin a woodshed In the rear of her
home died this morning at 3 oclock
The woman was horribly burned
about the mouth with carbolic acid
The police and the sheriffs depart
ments are today attempting to un
ravel the mysterious death of Mrs
Culbertson Aside from three mys-
terious letters found no clue has been
discovered The dead woman was
formerly Miss Jennie Lee Overton of
Dublin Texas and was formerly a
trained nurse A search of all the
drugstores shows that the acid used
was not purchased here This morn-
ing a neighbor was found who saw
a man and woman in front of the
Brazelton home a short time before
the second letter was received Every
town within a radius of one hundred
miles is being searched The police
arenot yet determined whether it is
a case of suicide or a fiendish mur
derand the case is mystifying the
officers
