Mrs Zchncr
Wo havo just had another grand
and profitable occnsion brought
about by the visit of Mr < 3 Zehner
who lectured in the court house
Tuesday and Wednesday nightB of
this week her first lecture being
upon Christian Citizenship
which was a most excellent appeal
to higher ideals of life calling up-
on the peoplo for greater activity
in the moral life Her appeal was
to all classes and ages to move
forward
It was especially helpful to the
young people of which a large
number was present Shopainted
a beauful word picture of the young
man reaching upward towards a
crown on which which was writ-
ten the word character while
below and around him were seen
hands that were striving to hold
him down and these hands repre-
sented gambling indolence drink
lechery good time Ac
And there waB another picture
aresented to the vision of oyes ev
ry day of the boy reaching up af
terjeharacters orown while around
bim are hands yesmothers hands
pushing him up upl that he may
obtain Whero are the fathers
hands wherein is held the ballot
On Tuesday night another ap-
preciative audianco gathered and
listened to explanation of The
Saloon in the Light of tho 20th
Century showing conclusively
that while long and rapid strides
have been made alongthe lines of
art Bcienca pedagogy and mechan
ics equally as great strides have
been made in the moral and spir-
itual realm as manifested in the
desire for a purer and higher mor-
ality while the better knowledge
of God has created a larger and
more constant desire to be nearer
and in greater cognosance with his
purer spiritual nature
It is cause of much pleasure that
we can have these godly people
come to us with their uplifting in
fluence and that the citizens of
Jefferson are appreciative of these
visits is evidenced by the growing
audiences that gather from time to
time to attend these intellectual
entertainments and all of this goes
to show that we havo as high an
order of people as can be found
anywhere and certainly the kind-
est hearted people that lives May
the Masters richest blessings rest
upon these earnest loving hearts
is the echoed wish of every one of
our citizenB
Another cold wave swept down
upon us Sunday afternoon by rain
and a cold north wind The weath-
er was freezing by Monday and a-
light snow fell in the morning but
soon grew too cold to snow and
we had several days of freezing
weather with thermometer down
in the 20ts We had a heavy white
frost Thursday morning when it
begun to moderate
